Hello!

1) Tell me, I have a motherboard MSI Z270 GAMING PRO, and an Intel core i5-7500 processor. I want to put the RAM HyperX HX426C16FB2K2 / 16 2666 MHz. Are they compatible if the motherboard supports memory and the processor only 2400?

2) I have a motherboard MSI Z270 GAMING PRO. Will the processor work with Socet LGA 1151 v2?

Thanks in advance!

ВВысо, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In reference to your question, the memory controller is located inside the Intel® Core™ i5-7500 Processor, so the Intel® Processor is the one that indicates which is the proper memory RAM to use with your platform.

The Intel® Core™ i5-7500 Processor works with

DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V so, if the memory RAM that you are going to use runs at 2666 MHz that speed will to high for the Processor and it might not work properly:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/97123/intel-core-i5-7500-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-80-ghz.html

According to the specifications of the memory RAM HyperX HX426C16FB2K2, it says that it has an XMP profile of DDR4-2666 CL16-18-18 @1.2V, that will be too high for the Intel® Processor as well.

In some cases, the memory RAM has a feature that is called SPD, and what that value means is how the BIOS of the board might recognize the memory RAM, meaning that even though the specifications of the memory indicate that it runs at 2666MHz, sometimes the BIOS will automatically decrease that value to the one that is supported by the Intel® Processor, 2133MHz or 2400 Mhz .

This specific memory RAM does not show the SPD feature:

So in this case, you can always contact the manufacturer of the memory RAM to confirm that information or contact the manufacturer of the motherboard to find out if the BIOS of the board will decrease the speed of the memory RAM automatically to the proper one, otherwise, the PC might not even boot:

In regard to the Intel® Core™ i5-7500 Processor being compatible with the MSI Z270 GAMING PRO board, in the following link you will confirm that it is fully compatible with the board from BIOS version

7A59v20.zip or higher, any other BIOS version will not work with the Intel® Processor:
