Hi, there was a problem with the processor in Dota 2.
After 3-5 min of play, the processor speed drops from 3.46 GHz to 0.36 GHz (fps to 10-15 from 100-120) for 1-2 minutes, then it is restored to normal, then again falls and so it repeats. Video quality settings in the game do not affect the behavior.
Hardware: Core i7-7500U, GeForce 940MX 2 GB, RAM 16 GB, SSD.
The laptop is new, it's 5 days old, while playing the first game without lag 3 days ago.
The screenshot shows the changes:
Ty for help!
Sorry for english with translator.

Hello heyheyhey,
I understand CPU speed drops for a couple of minutes while you are playing Dota 2.
Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.
In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility
Do you know if there is any change in CPU temperature as well?
Does the issue happen in any other game/application?
To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.
Regards,
Fred D.

Thanks for help.
The temperature is normal, this can be seen from the screenshot attached in the header/
in other games the problem also happen.

Hello heyheyhey,
Thanks for the information you sent to me.
I would like you to try updating some of the computer drivers in a specific order.
Please install this driver first and then restart the computer http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin10/Chipset/Chipset_Intel_Kabylake_Win10_64_VER101127.zip http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin10/Chipset/Chipset_Intel_Kabylake_Win10_64_VER101127.zip
Please download this graphics driver https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27058/eng/win64_154605.4771.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27058/eng/win64_154605.4771.zip
As soon as the graphics driver has been downloaded install it with the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY
I would like you to force the computer to open the game with the NVIDIA* video card.
1. Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Click Manage 3D settings in Select a Task.
3. Select your desired software from the Select a program to customize drop-down list on the Program settings tab.
4. Select the High-performance NVIDIA processor from the Select the preferred graphics processor for this program drop-down list.
5. Click Apply.
If issue persists I would like you to try updating the BIOS of the laptop. You can download latest BIOS from this link http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/X556UQK/X556UQKAS309.zip http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/X556UQK/X556UQKAS309.zip

Issue are persists. I will not update the BIOS, because the laptop still has a warranty. I found one solution. In power options -> Processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> 99%.
I set the value to 99%, thereby disabling Turbo Boost, the frequency during the game does not rise above 2.7 MHz and at the same time does not fall. But it seems to me that this is not the best solution and the Turbo Boost mode does not work properly. How can I configure the work Turbo Boost so that it does not reset the processor speed to a minimum?
On the screenshot I tested the Maximum processor state.
Regards,
Dima.

Hello heyheyhey,
Thanks for the information you sent to me.
I would like you to try setting the Maximum processor state to 100% and using the recommended settings we have for Dota 2 in the following link https://gameplay.intel.com/en-us/CPUAndGameSelected/Index/95451/12875/0 https://gameplay.intel.com/en-us/CPUAndGameSelected/Index/95451/12875/0
Let me know if issue persists or not with the recommended game settings.

Dear Intel Corporation.
Saw this thread and realize maybe i'm suffering the same issue as heyheyhey.
Literally i've just tried everything to solve my problem without an success. So i hope you can help me at least to understand what is the problem.
My configuration: ASUS Vivobook X556UQ
CPU: i5-7200U
RAM: 8GB
SSD:120GB WD Blue
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 940MX
So i realized decent fps lags during while i was playing League of Legends and World of Warships. During normal periods FPS avarage in LOL is ~100 (Dropped to 4-5) and ~70 in WOWs (dropped to 1-4).
These FPS drops are no longer than 5-10 sec (during the phenomenon the sound is lagging as well).
Applied containment actions:
- Power settings are set to high performance in the windows system.
- Temp, prefetch are cleaned registry settings fixed with CCleaner
- Games are optimized in the Geforce Experience app(Laggs are coming in the lowest settigns as well)
- Xbox app and Game DVR closed and disabled
- Core parking is not allowed in detailet power settings
- BIOS flashed for the latest 312 version
- At the very beginning i suspecteed maybe the slow HDD is the root cause, so changed to a brand new SSD (120 GB WB blue)
- At this moment on the SSD i only have: Win10 latest. OEM drivers (latest version). And the WOWs game. (reinstalled yesterday-Lags are with me)
- Suspect driver problem so:
- Tried to install original drivers from the OEM CD. Still lagging.
- Updated the CD drivers. No succes.
- Drivers only from OEM website (latest and recommended drivers-all of them-)
- Drivers from OEM website, but only the critical ones. Lags are still real.
- Searching possible solution on different forums i've found many (appearently) usefull software. Tried:
- Razer cortex game optimizer.
- HW monitor
- CCleaner
- MSI afterburner, etc.
Basically tried everything i could, but i'm still struggling with the issue and at this moment i'm very disappointed.
On some forum i've read about switching off the Hyper thread (not available in BIOS settings, any power or temperature related settings are unavailable in my BIOS)
On one forum i've read about one intel thermal profile stuff which is shutting down CPU frequency in order to save power and avoid overheating.
Found this Intel® DPTF installed so i removed it and hoped to find solution but lags are still comes.
BTW i still think there is something with the termal related problem. Please see my graphs below (logged with MSI afterburner).
On the graph is visible some times GPU cores are shutted down and in the same time CPU frequency dropped to 400Mhz from 3112Mhz. CPU usage is correlated with low frequency so the CPU usage is maximized at the same time and the result is: Frame from 68 is dropped to 0.
Interesting point is the CPU temperature (+GPU). Once they reach the same °C the shutting down is appearing and temperature decreasing for a while. Once the temperature decreased, the cores will switch for the maximum frequency and the whole procedure starts again. Temperature increasing, cores shutting down, some cooling, cores switch on and lags go away.
The PC is almost 5 month old, spared and used with coolermaster desktop notebook cooler. Only used on my PC desk, and when i put the SSD in there were no dust or any dirty stuff inside which should cause problem in the heating system.
So my basic question is there any "defense protocol" in the CPU which shutting down my cores (core parking not allowed in power settings) in order to avoid overheating?
Honestly i'm not really familiar about the recommended temperatures during gaming or high stressing. (At this moment when i write this core temperatures are:43-44 °C). My old laptop had problem with the cooling system and it shutted down when reached 95°C-after hours of gaming-, so i think 81°C in this case is not critical one, but please correct me if i'm wrong.
Is it possible that it is not thermal related? (didn't find any thermal related settigns in BIOS)
Do you have any other idea or solution which is recommended to find and eliminate my issue?
I'm looking forward to your kind response.
Thank you in advance!
