i7-6700 + Gigabyte Z270MX Gaming 5 mobo = no Turbo Boost

I have enabled Turbo in Bios but cannot get this processor to ever go beyond it base freq of 3.4ghz. I tried testing a single core using Prime95 and even when the utilization is pegged at 100%, the freq never increases past 3.4ghz. Is there another setting in Bios I need to enable to get Turbo to work? Perhaps voltage? Also, I checked and the temps are between 70-55C.

tboooe: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® Processors communities. We are sorry to hear the processor is not working as expected.

In regard to your inquiry, the Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 is a feature is embedded on the processor and it works automatically depending on the load of work. It should work if the option is enable in the BIOS, normally that is all you need to do, in this case to get in contact with Gigabyte to confirm if there is another option that needs to be enable on their BIOS will be a good thing to try:

In regard to the processor itself, which kind of tool are you using to monitor the frequency of it?

We can also run the Intel® processor diagnostics tool, it does an overall test on the processor including a temperature test. The T-case for this processor is 71°C, so if the values showing after the test is completed are higher than that, it might be getting overheated:

Additionally on the link below you will find additional information about how the feature works and what should be the value depending on the cores that are enable:

Any further questions, please let me know.

Thank you for the reply. I am using cpuid HWMonitor to see the frequency and temperature. The temps are typically in the mid 60s so it doesnt seem that my CPU is overheating. Using HWMonitor I see each core reach 4ghz momentarily during idle but never anything above 3.4ghz during actual usage.

tboooe: You are welcome. Thank you for providing that information. In this case we can try a BIOS update to the latest version on the board, please choose the Windows version to get the file:

Also, please provide the report from the Intel® processor diagnostics tool. Once the test is completed you just need to look for the option "File" the choose "View File" and attach that report to this thread. To do that, please click "Use Advanced Editor" in the top right corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear in the bottom right corner of the response box.

Any questions, please let me know.

tboooe: I just received an update on the research we were doing on this matter and based on the fact that the processor passed the Intel® PDT test, we can say that it should be working fine, the reported problem could be related to the monitoring software that you are using or the motherboard itself.

We can always try the following troubleshoot steps:

Perform a clear CMOS process.

Load the default BIOS settings.

Check if there is a BIOS option to enable/disable multicore operation. If available then test the system with a single core and run the software. Then try with two or more cores and run the software again.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi, could you tell me what's wrong with my CPU? I just bought this several months ago. I don't think this is damage due to computer use. If so, can I replace it? (It's a core i7 6700)@
