Altera Embedded IP Suite Licenses

I have some questions to ask about altera's embedded IP suite licenses.

I've obtained my current info from http://www.altera.com/devices/processor/nios2/ipsuite/ni2-ip-suite.html

The website refers both to a "time unlimited" license, and a "one-year renewal". Why would we need a renewal of a time-unlimited license? We would be looking at the entire embedded IP suite ($995) what exactly does $995 buy us?

Is there an upper bound on the number of FPGAs we can program, the number of different designs we can generate, the time period over which we can use it to program?

If we were to finalize our design within the year, would systems programmed with it cease to function after one year?

Could we program further copies after the year expires?
