Basic architecture for a digital image processing system

Hello, i am at the end of my course and i proposed to make a digital image processing system in a FPGA (i've been working with FPGA for 2-3 months but i never worked with image processing).

What do i need? I am probably getting my images from the VGA (there is another conector in the DE2 kit for video but i never used it).

So basicaly:

1. Image comes from VGA

2. I must take a look at the image as a raw image (bit map), how can i do that?

3. What must be my hardware achitecture? I am making the algorithm at pure Verilog.

I am really lost tbh, hehe. I wont use NIOS. It will be pure hardware.

THanks
