Connection of K type thermocouple to FPGA and show data in laptop

Hi. I now have a K type thermocouple (wire type) and i want to connect it to my FPGA DE2-115 Board. The purpose is to store the temperature measured in FPGA and display it on my laptop or make it into a csv file so i can make put it in excel to make graphs.

Do i need a converter for this connection? like an ADC, if yes can yall suggest for me some types? And is the USB to UART cable needed to connect the FPGA to my laptop ?

Hi,
DE2-115 has no suitable ADC on board. I would use an ADC with built-in cold junction compensation like TI ADS1118.

Is a MAX31855 compatible too?

You can try to compare the Electrical Characteristics specification for both MAX31855 and Cyclone IV to see if they are compatible with each other.

MAX31855 looks perfect too.
You have been also asking for communication options. Available is RS232, USB, Ethernet. RS232 involves least software overhead.
