EP4GX110DF27 remote update with EPCS16 ?

Hi,

I have a cyclone IV GX linked with an EPCS 16 in AS mode.

I would like to store 2 conf files (factory+user) and use remote mode.

EPCS16 seems to be too small to store 2sof converted in jic, even with compression activated. I would like to avoid EPCS64 if possible.

So is there a way to reduce file size ? maybe for small design ?

Thanks !

Quarts don't fit into pint pots!

Maybe make the 'factory' image only contain enough logic to write the 'user' one?

I know but epcs16 was enough for cyclone III :-/

sof file have always the same size. even with a few logic element (900LE << 1%) it doesn't fit.

I'm no expert, but I'd have thought compression would help.

thanks but without compression I can't even store 1 sof=>jic in epcs16. compression allows to store 1 but not 2.

It would be great to have a chapter in each device handbook which explain what you can do with each epcs.

Actually the FPGA handbook each have a configuration chapter that has a table giving the configuration file sizes. Have a look at this one (http://www.altera.com/literature/hb/cyclone-iv/cyiv-51008.pdf), page 8-4 and 8-5. The uncompressed configuration size for an EP4CGX110 is 39,425,016 bits so you already need serious compression to even fit one FPGA image in an EPCS16.
