FPGA Configuration from Flash (AS) or Controller (FPP)

Dear all

I've got a few points concerning FPGA configuration, which are not quite clear to me. First my situation:

I've got a data acquisition unit using an FPGA for compression and pushing data over USB (FX2) to a PC. Right now, I'm configuring the FPGA over USB using FPP (fast passiv parallel) method and am happy with it. For future use in possible standallone situations, I've got an EPCS64 on board. This currently unused device, I'd like to use as additional system flash by means of ALTASMI_PARALLEL megafunction.

Here now my questions: Use of the ALTASMI_PARALLEL requires setting AS (Active Serial) device option, as I learn from http://www.alteraforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4150. However I still want to use the device in FPP mode (MSEL=000). So I'm using two different settings at two different locations which makes me feel uncomfortable. Does this ambiguity lead to any problems? Why is setting AS required to interface the EPCS device? Need some deeper insight here.

When compiling the FPGA with AS option, I still can perfectly use it in FPP mode (as I want) but the ALTASMI_PARALLEL delivers no useful data (only 0xFF) although control signals seems to work ok (e.g. data_valid).

How can i use ALTASMI_PARALLEL / EPCS64 in FPP mode?

Kind regads,

Peter
