Modelsim and Legup

In the legup tutorial shown at the website:

http://legup.eecg.utoronto.ca/getstarted.php

It does not say which version of modelsim to download and to use. I downloaded and installed

11.1_173_modelsim_ae_linux.sh.

This version seems to require a license. Thus I either add a license or use a different version. What version do they recommend?

Any help aprreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Wrong version; the AE in the name stands for "Altera Edition", which requires a license. You want the free "Altera Starter Edition", which I'd guess should have ase in its filename.

Okay so where do I download the starter version? I have a website which states that modelsim and modelsim starter

are available the same site. Tha website is here:

http://dl.altera.com/?product=modelsim_ae#tabs-2

Now all it offers to download is :

11.1_173_modelsim_ae_linux.sh

which is clearly not the starter version. Now the are two service packs available.

Could they work and make 11.1_173_modelsim_ae_linux.sh into 11.1_173_modelsim_ase_linux.sh.

At least on the installed version.

I just do not know jere to download

11.1_173_modelsim_ase_linux.sh. If I did I would have downloaed it insteaf the ase version straight away.

Thanks in advance.

"ModelSim-Altera Edition (includes Starter Edition)"

Ok, I see, Altera have changed how they package Modelsim.

That same page has a FAQ and software installation guide. Read those, and if you still cannot figure out how to install Modelsim-ASE, I'll download the file and go through the process. I have 14.0 installed on a Windows 7 machine, but I could install it under Centos 6.5 to see if the Linux procedure differs.
