Now i can get it run with my toshiba 20GB hdd, but no luck with my SamSung 80GB and hitachi 40GB hdd,the problem is the status i read from the 80GB and 40GB hdd is always wrong, here i did not use the dstrb, because i see this signal is generated by the ata core but not device. but these two hdd can be initialized sucessfully by my s3c44b0 evl board using PIO mode.
Who can help me? Thanks! ChrisLink Copied

I share your doubts regarding the DSTROBE signal. It's not used according to ATA spec in the design and I don't understand what it's intended for. Furthermore, DSTROBE is definitely not needed in PIOMODE cause it's an UDMA signal.
Apart from this special point, you didn't tell how you operated the HDDs, so there's nothing to comment. I suppose, the drives can operate in PIO mode. Not keeping the necessary ATA command timing may be a reason for failure with certain devices because of individual timing differences.- Mark as New
