USB Blaster inaccessible

I've just restarted using Quartus after a long (maybe 2 years?) break. I've updated to web edition 9.1sp1. So all my existing projects needed to be converted. I'm now trying to program using a USB Blaster and it doesn't recognise the USB Blaster. When I open the Programmer and do Hardware setup, "Add hardware" gives me a choice between "ByteBlasterMV or ByteBlaster II" and "Ethernet Blaster". I've looked at the driver installation instructions, but I can't do them since the XP OS doesn't come up with a "found new hardware" dialog. I've tried this with the USB Blaster plugged into an unpowered board, a powered board and not plugged in. No difference. The led on the USB Blaster blinks blue when plugged in, but does NOT blink when I click "Hardware setup". Any ideas folks?

Did you had a look into the device manager ?

when the USB Blaster is connected via USB, it should appear as "Altera USB-Blaster" and does not require to be connected to a target via the 10 pin JTAG connector.

also the USB Blaster drivers can be found here

C:\altera\91\quartus\drivers

please note that 91 is the version you are currently using and could be 91SP1 in your case

also you can use the driver from FTDI as well.

i had posted these links a couple of days ago in another thread.

It is in Device Manager as "other devices". I've uninstalled it and now on plugging it in it does lauch the found new hardware menu... Maybe this will work.
