Hi all,
I am a beginner of using Altera. Currently, I am doing a project which optimizes the cost of a device by replacing EP3C80F780C8N with EP3C5E144C8N, while still using the old vhdl code. They are both Cyclone III device, but the number of pins are different. Do I need to modify any pin mapping? If yes, please show me how to do it.:) Thank you greatly for helping this amateur, Best Regards,Link Copied

As a quick check, you can assign the smaller FPGA to the project which will remove all pin assignments and compile to check if the logic fits in. If yes, decide about the new pin assignment. I presume that the number of IO pins is sufficient.
