Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management 18.0.1017.0: Corrupt GUI

cccleaner

Small issue:

Intel Storage Management Version 18.0.1017.0

The Write-cache buffer flushing switch in a RAID config is inverted in the GUI. When I turn it on, it goes off in Device Manager under the Disk Drive. When I turn it off it turns on in Device Manager under DIsk Drive.

This is misleading

Any one else having this issue?

Hi cccleaner, Thank you very much for sharing those details.

In reference to your question "Do I need to count with complete EoL status of X299 Platform soon by Intel not providing Driver updates anymore for this chipset?" There is no official date or official statement from Intel® informing until when they will be releasing driver updates and until when this Intel® Chipset will be supported. As you can see in the link below, the Intel® Chipset was released back in Q2'17, so it is not that old neither:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/122941/intel-x299-chipset.html

"BUT: the driver can be installed and the only issue I have is an inverted Switch in the GUI?" In this case, since the Intel® RST version installed is not fully compatible with the computer there might be some registry problems related to the Operating System, so even if you re-install the GUI those changes are still present in the platform. So, what we recommend in order to try to fix this problem will be to get in contact directly with Microsoft to gather the instructions on how to re-install Windows* from scratch, due to licensing we recommend to check with them first and also to back up any important information you might have in your system:

cccleaner, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

For this scenario, in order for us to be able to provide the most accurate assistance on this matter, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your platform.

Please provide the SSU report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, please check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs"

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-?product=91600

And also, please provide the RAID report to verify the RAID configuration on your system:

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi Albert

Thanks for your reaction and your questions.

The SSU Report is attached. The RAID Report I cannot pull out of the Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management because I simply do not find the Help Button in there.

Maybe you can give a hint?

Thank you

Hi, You are very welcome, thank you very much for providing that information and the SSU report.

Based on the information showing in that report, we can confirm that the Intel® Chipset being used in your platform is Intel® Chipset X299, and the thing is that chipset version is not supported by Intel® RST version 18, as you can confirm in the following link:

https://downloadmirror.intel.com/29978/eng/Readme_enduser_18.0.txt

So, in this case, what we recommend is to use the Intel® RST version 16 that it is fully compatible with the Intel® Chipset X299:

https://downloadmirror.intel.com/28992/eng/Readme.txt

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28992/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-User-Interface-and-Driver

Or to install the Intel® RST version provided by the manufacturer of the board, version 17:

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-X299-A/HelpDesk_Download/

Keep in mind also, that when using the Intel® RST version 18, it is needed to download the GUI from Microsoft Store since that version will only install the driver of the tool:

Hi Albert

Wow, that is truely surprising!

i need to admit that I definitely did not expect that. The X299 chipset is old, right, but it is still the one and onyl  for CPU Socket 2066 Enthusiasm Platform from Intel.

ASUS Is still providing BIOS updates for my board pretty regularly. Do I need to count with complete EoL status of X299 Platform soon by Intel not providing Driver updates anymore for this chipset?

I will use the ASUS drivers then.

BUT: the driver can be installed and the only issue I have is an inverted Switch in the GUI?

Probably this also answers why the verify process is not running through in my other open thread here in the forum.

Thanks for another answer on the lifeycle of this chipset.

Best Regards..

All ok now! But see in one of my other threads the message about compatibility confusion and driver delivery. Intel should streamline the Driver publication with Windows better, also for non Intel Manufactured Boards. Thank you and merry christmas.

Latest update and conclude on the topic:

The verify process is running through to 100% in one attempt also with

Management Version: 18.0.1017.0 and

Driver: 17.9.1.1009.

This driver is obviously the for the time being the very latest Intel RST driver for the ASUS X299 Prime Mainboard, which is working.

The GUI switch I am sorry was a misunderstanding by myself. The switches function looks inverted  WIndows OS and Intel Software only, But it does the function in both ends correclty.. .. that was a corona pandemic caused Brainf*** confusion

For me the case is closed and I thank you for your support.

Happy New Year!
