For decades, I've been working with machines having IRST installed.
In previous versions of the IRST front end software, notifications were shown when there was an issue with one of the RAID drives. Now, with the eve of the IRST front end software being implemented in UWP (available through Microsoft Store app, version 18++), no notifications are presented to the user anymore.
This is utterly poor!!! I am working with a degraded (and now failing) RAID drive without any notification by IRST for weeks (or even months). This should never have happened!
What do you suggest? Reinstall Windows with an old version of IRST? Or is there a hidden option available for enabling important notifications by IRST that I have been missing?

Hello HolyKnight,
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I am sorry to know that you are having issues with the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST).
I would like to let you know that the System tray icon on Microsoft Windows* taskbar is currently not supported on the Intel® Optane Memory and Storage Management app.
You can find more information at the following link:
If you have further questions, just let me know.

Yes, I comprehend. But the IRST app doesn't generate notifications, either:
I'm a Windows expert. For what reason did you change from Windows Forms or WPF to UWP? UWP is a completely inappropriate platform for system monitoring purposes. Why didn't you conduct a requirement analysis before taking that path?
The Intel® Optane Memory and Storage Management app is completely useless if it doesn't immediately warn about a degraded RAID whenever that event occurs. Loss of data in a RAID 1 configuration due to not being shown this important information is absolutely inacceptable. Monitoring RAID devices is the reason why this software is being installed in the first place.

Hello HolyKnight,
Thanks for your response. Based on the investigation, this option should be available (see image attach).
For this option to work, you should have the latest Windows version and build, the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management tool installed, and the latest driver installed (the driver is provided by the computer manufacturer).
Let me know if the behavior continues.
Best regards,
Deivid A.

Let's be honest: In my previous post I wrote that I'm a Microsoft expert … So, do you really suggest I didn't check this option before posting? I'm using the latest Windows and IRST version, of course. And I'm absolutely firm about what your software can do and what it cannot. But I'm appalled that you (Intel) actually did not implement a crucial, necessary feature; a core feature that people expect your software to deliver. And I'm appalled that you (Intel) have the chutzpah to publish a software like this, leaving customers/users in false believe they can rely on your essential software.

Hello HolyKnight
We apologize for the inconvenience and we know the notifications feature is important for you as such we will be glad to pass your feedback to the corresponding team to be taken into consideration.
As you mentioned starting with version 17.x and above software will not come with a notification area or tray icon to notify about failures. The notifications feature is now handled by the operating system and this will only work through Microsoft Notification Center. Messages will be displayed if the option within the Intel RST/Intel Optane console is enabled and Windows will take care of notifications.
Please try the following steps toe enabled notifications through the Windows Notifications Center:
1. Enable Notifications on Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management:
- Open the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management app.
- Click Settings.
- Under Notifications settings, click Change settings.
- Enable Notifications.
2. Enable Notifications on Windows:
- Click the Windows Start button and select the settings gear in the lower-left corner.
- Click System.
- Select Notifications & Actions.
- Confirm the option Get notifications from apps and other senders is enabled.
- Scroll down to see Get notifications from these senders, Show notifications from these apps, or similar, and enable notifications for Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management.

Thank you for your valuable reply.
I'm not able to enable notifications on Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management. That option is disabled:
Moreover, as you can see from a previous screenshot I posted, Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management does not exist in the list of apps that send notifications.

Hello HolyKnight and Intel
I am NOT Microsoft Expert, professional etc. I am NOT Intel employee or even not certified in either ones. Just a "small computer guy"
From what I see here and BOTH of you missed (including internal Intel resources - WOW... scary that Intel could not see it) reason is:
you are trying to setup EMAIL NOTIFICATION in above screenshot example.
The reason it is GREYED OUT is that you DID NOT FILL UP above SMTP configuration - mail server, emails and port#.
This is EMAIL NOTIFICATION - NOT desktop notification section.
Once you fill it up - it will work. At least it works on my English version - not sure about German (I don't speak German - sorry)
I know what you have in mind - I work with IRST for years too and they took away system tray icon - I miss it too. AND it is BAD.
Few months ago they didn't even have email notifications - that was even worse. Now at least we have email notifications. A bit better, but Intel should think intel-ligently - if you have RAID system - monitor it and alert properly - seems like some rookies design those new versions without idea about RAID and importance of it.
All the best!
VM7
EDIT - To make important point - Intel gave us option to send email notification. Nice. Would be even nicer if Intel would make an effort and provide field to authenticate sending emails (password field). We live way in 21 century and sending emails without authentication is almost impossible today unless you have your own mail server on internal network or using insecure one - C'mon Intel - anyone is aware of security there?

Hello Deivid,
thank you for your reply. I'm using the following version of IRST:
Trying to install any other IRST version over this version, the downloaded IRST installer claims that I'm "already using the latest or even a newer version. […] Aborting installation."

Hello Deivid,
I'm sure you can imagine that I'm not able to let my main machine stay stale while we are having this discussion.
I backed up all the files that still were accessible, cleared all the drives and had them replaced with new, empty drives. Yesterday, my machine came back, I installed a temporary Windows 10 installation and I'm now rewriting all the 6 TB of data back to my machine.
When the backup is done, I will install this version of IRST only once more to provide you with the requested information. This will be the last time I will be able to answer any questions regarding this IRST version, so please request all information you need now. After I provide you with that information, I am going to install the final Windows 10x64 installation to my machine next week, and then, I will not install that buggy version of IRST anymore.
Regards,
HolyKnight

I just re-installed Windows 10x64 Enterprise 22H2 and re-installed IRST.
So, now here is the screenshot you requested:
In regard to the drivers, I guess you are looking for something like this:
My mainboard is an Asus X99-E WS.

as you've read from my pervious postings, I just installed the latest version last week.
Caused by the malfunctioning of the IRST tool I lost 2 weeks of precious working time and I will lose three more weeks for restoring all my damaged virtual machines. Where can I claim my damages at Intel when I'm residing in Germany? Please provide me with the postal address.
Thank you.

Hello HolyKnight,
Thanks for your time and comprehension. You mentioned that you have the latest Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) version, however, from the pictures that you shared, you have installed version 18.30.1.1138 and the latest version is 19.5.2.1049.
Please make sure that you have version 19.5.2.1049 installed since this is the latest version of the tool (you can see it in the image attached).
