Hi Community,
I'm facing the issue that I can't get Intel RST up and running on my Z790 Mainboard.
First I tried to just move my NVMe RAID1 from a Z390 board to the new Z790 Board (with injecting the required drivers to Win 11 24h2 before switching). This failed with a BSOD.
Then I killed the existing RAID, cleaned the NVMes, built a new one and tried to reinstall Win11 with loading the drivers during the installation. The installer found the RAID-Disk and Win11 got installed but crashed also with BSOD on first start.
After that, removed the RAID again and installed Win11 on one NVMe drive and installed the SetupRST. Unfortunaltey it still is not working as the RstMwService keeps crashing (Error 1062) and (most prob.) due to this, the RST App fails with Error 0xA00906BE.
I tried the drivers from the board manufacturer (19.5.7.1058) as well as the latest from the Intel webpage I could find (20.0.0.1038).
Luckily my SATA RAID10 with my data which I meanwhile also connected is still accessible, but I can't build the NVMe RAID any longer and also can't check the Status of the SATA RAID if something goes wrong.
Related to the service crashes, I see the following entry in eventlog:

Any idea what to try next?

Hello Dhanniel,
I finally was able to fix my issue. I created a new install media with German OS and was able to install is with two NMVes in RAID 1. With this it was proven that my previous install media was corrupted for whatever reason.
After this was working I I restored the backup of my original two NMVes which I migrated from the Z390 board of a single NVMe. As long as I did not add this disk to VMD, it was bootable but as expected, the issue with RSTMWService still was existing. After doing a repair installation with the new install media, even there the RSTMWService started propperly and I was able to start The RST-App.
After adding the System NMVe to VMD the system still booted and I finally was able to build the RAID1 for the system disks again (even with one NMVe in the upper M2 slot).
So by coincidence both my running system and my install media had some corruption what I never had expected as the system was running without any obvious issue on the old board and with the install media I installed also two other systems in the last months (but non-RAID) without any issue.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your support, I greatly appreciate it!
Kind regards
Georg

Hello GH76,
Thank you for your post in the community. To assist you further, I need some additional information. Please answer the following questions:
- Could you provide the models of your CPU and motherboards (Z790 and Z390), along with their current BIOS versions? Also, please specify the NVMe drives you are using.
- Have you tried reinstalling the NVMe drive back into your Z390 motherboard after using it on the Z790? If so, does it exhibit the same issue?
- Is RAID enabled on your Z790 motherboard?
- Besides changing the RST driver, have you tried removing the RST application and reinstalling it?
Additionally, you might find the Intel RST User Guide helpful. Looking forward to your response to help resolve the issue.
Best regards,
Dhanniel M.

Hello Dhanniel,
thanks for your reply.
1. The CPU on the Z790 board (ASROCK Z790 Pro RS WiFi) is an i5-14600KF with BIOS version 14.02 which is the latest available for this board. The CPU on the Z390 board was an i5-9600, also with the latest available BIOS. The NVMe disk are two SANDISK Extrem Pro 500GB SDSSDXPM2-500G.
2. Yes, this was one of my tests. On the Z390 they were usable without any issue after switching them back.
3. Yes, and in the BIOS is was propperly detected as RAID1 with correct size.
4. Also this was tried. I even killed the RAID, cleaned up the NMVes and reinstalled from scratch with the same issue. I also tried with two other NVMe disks I had at hand (1x WD SN580 and 1x SANDISK PLUS) which never were part of a RAID before.
Maybe, I'm to stupid, but in my eyes it's not very complicated (and it's not the first time I'm using RST) - just enable VMD, enable VMD mapping, build the RAID and load the correct driver during installation. After OS installation, install the RSPSetup.exe with the option to install the RST Tool and done.
Kind regards
Georg

Hello GH76,
Thank you for your detailed response to my previous inquiries. I have one additional question: Could you please provide the exact model of your Z390 motherboard? This information will help me further investigate the issue on my end. I appreciate your assistance.

Hello Dhanniel,
sure - the Z390 board was an Asrock Z390 Pro4 board.

Dear Dhanniel,
I had some spare time and did also some additional tests on my side.
Till now I used a Windows Installation Medium with a German version of Windows 11.
Today I created a new one with "English US" - here I was able to install Windows from scratch with the RST drivers, it booted without any issues and I also was able to open the RST tool without any issue.
So now there are two options - either the RST tool does not like a German OS or my current installation as well as my German Install Medium is corrupted for whatever reason.
I did not have time to recreate the Install Stick with a German version of Windows 11. If I find some time, I will do it in the next days and keep you updated.
Kind regards
Georg

Hello GH76,
Thank you for patiently waiting. That is quite an interesting discovery. I also have a recommendation that I would like you to try. Can you confirm if one of your SSDs is installed in the upper NVME slot? If so, could you try to install both of your NVME to the bottom slots and then install a German OS on it to see if it works?
Best regards,
