Please bear in mind the chipset X48 integrates ICH9R I/O controller and the latest RAID software for your chipset is version 8.9, this would be Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager:

Test the program above, make sure to uninstall your current driver before installing 8.9

same situation. btw - this new disk1 after install is raid, created by.. driver?
