Difference: Intel S1200SPL vs Intel S1200SPLR (BIOS vs Intel Warranty Lookup)

Hello there,

I would like to know the difference between the S1200SPL and S1200SPLR motherboard. As far as I understood the product comparison page and the support document (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/S1200SP_TPS_AllSKU.PDF) the only difference is:

- out of the box XEON E3 V6 support for SPLR due to newer BIOS version. V6 support on SPL after updating BIOS.

- out of the box TPM 2.0 support for SPLR. Does the SPL support TPM 2.0 modules after updating BIOS?

Is this correct? Did I miss something? As soon as I install the latest BIOS I will basically have a SPLR?

Let's come to the mystery I am facing:

My BIOS shows that my motherboard is an Intel S1200SPL. Adding the motherboard's PBA NO (H57532-270) and S/N on the Intel Warranty Lookup support page shows me that my motherboard is an Intel® Server Board S1200SPLR, Single.

Whom should I trust? What do I have here?

Thank you!

Hello newbienewbie,

Thank you for joining the Intel community

For a comparison you can check here: Intel® Product Specification Comparison

If you upgrade BIOS on a S1200SPL unfortunately you won't get an S1200SPLR because is not capable to accept the V6 processor at a hardware level.

About the warranty look up, most likely you will receive a S1200SPLR in the case you claim a warranty replacement for the current system you have.
