RES3TV360 Input

Good day,

I am linking a RES3TV360 to the external ports of a RES3FV288 which is linked to a LSI 9460-16i using 2 - 8643 cables. The RES3TV360 has 3 import ports: G, H & I.

Which 2 ports should I use?

Basically it has 9 total mini-SAS ports, but 3 are reserved for input so they would be connected to a RAID/HBA controller. 6 are output time 4 drives each = you can connect 24 drives to it.

Hello CTowl1,

 

Upon checking with our upper-level support, you are using a non-supported way of connectivity.

 

The RES3TV360 ports are to be connected to a RAID controller and although it could be cascaded or connected to another expander card, it would not be using external SAS ports but internal. 

 

Now, the input ports are to be connected to an HBA or RAID controller. Furthermore, if you are going to connect another expander card, you would need to daisy chain to the RES3FV288 using the output ports: A-F.

 

You would need to get special cables (not provided by Intel) so you can connect from the SFF- 8643 on the RES3TV360 to the SFF-8644 external ports in the RES3FV288.

 

Additionally, can you please let us know what are you trying to accomplish with this type of connection?

Hi Sergio,

I have successfully daisy chained from a LSI 9460-16i to a RES3FV288 expander then to 2 of RES2SV240 with each fed from one of the external ports of the RES3FV288. I now want to replace the 2 RES2SV240 extenders with one RES3TV360 linked to the 2 external ports of the RES3FV288. The RES3TV360 has 3 import ports: G, H & I.

 

Which 2 of the 3 RES3TV360 input ports should I use?

I had an Intel RES2SV240 expander fail and take out a R6 RAID array. My data was backed up on a separate system. It was one of 2 that I have had in service for about 10 years. My inquiry was due to replacing both of the RES2SV240 units with 1 RES3TV360 . The new extender's installation manual notes 3 input ports but does not specify which to use and in what order. My PC has a LSI 9460 RAID controller that connects to a RES3FV288 with 2 SFF-8643 cables. This expander has 2 external out put port which I had used to drive the 2 RES2SV240 units - one cable to each. I have now successfully daisy chained to the H & G inout ports of the RES3TV360. When connected to my 6Gb\s drives, they were all found. Unfortunately, the previous RAID configurations are seen but not accessible. I am due for new drives so I'll just build new RAIDs and recover the backed up files.

 

If a drive had failed, the RAID could have been recovered. But when the extender went through a period of instability, it took out enough of various drive RAID IDs that the RAID is unrecoverable. A lesson in data back-up redundancy here.
