I have an Intel Server Board S3210SHLC, mounted in a generic 4U rack case.
This board has 4 system fan connectors (besides the CPU fan). All 4 fan connectors are used by generic fans, with 3 pins. The speed of fans are normal.
I have updated the BIOS, BMC, FRU & SDR firmware to the latest versions (S3200SH_BIOS49_BMC39_FRUSDR114).
During the SDR update, i have selected "OTHER" case type, and specified that all system fan are used.
The problem:
If i login to the BMC i get only one system fan (System Fan 3) and the RPM is 0 (zero):
dpccli> sensors -v
04/28/10 | 16:38:41 | BB +1.8V SM | ok | 1.78 | Volts
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | BB +3.3V | ok | 3.29 | Volts
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | BB +3.3V STBY | ok | 3.24 | Volts
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | BB +5.0V | ok | 4.92 | Volts
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | Processor Vcc | ok | 1.14 | Volts
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | BB Ambient Temp | ok | 37.00 | Celsius
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | CPU Fan | ok | 935.00 | RPM
04/28/10 | 16:38:42 | System Fan 3 | ok | 0.00 | RPM
04/28/10 | 16:38:43 | P1 Therm Margin | ok | -68.00 | Celsius
The questions:
How can i monitor all 4 system fans on this board?
How do i activate all fans?
Why there is no speed reading on the only active system fan?
Thank you.

This doesn't look right... Are all fans spinning? A zero RPM reading with "ok" status seems odd to me... Can you try to load FRUSDR again?

All fans are spinning just fine.
But i get no reading from them.
I will try to update the FRUSDR again.

I have updated the FRUSDR again, selected "OTHER" case, selected all four system fans. Nothing changed.
Still there is only one fan recognized (System Fan 3), with 0 RPM.
If i read the SDR records with SysCfg utility i get the same result, only one system fan is registered (nr 3).
What could it be?
Any ideas?

I tried it on my board by applying SDR again choosing "Other" chassis and select all fans. All fans are showing up in DPCCLI, and connects doesn't has fan readings has 0 RPM reading and "Critical" status. It seems BMC is not getting SDR data correctly. Can you flash BMC again, and then SDR? If still seeing same issue, please try to run http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18895&lang=eng Intel® System Information Retrieval Utility for Windows* and post the result here.
btw, which syscfg command did you use to read SDR records?

I will try to flash again the BMC.
The server is running Linux, so i can't run the System Information Retrieval Utility for Windows.
Sorry, i have confused things, i have used the FRUSDR Load Utility (FRUSDR.efi) to read the SDR records, not SysCfg...

Today i have managed to "update" again the BMC and the SDR firmware, to the same versions, of course.
By mistake, i have selected during the SDR update, the "Intel(R) Server Chassis SC5299 UP" instead of "Other Chassis".
After the reboot, i have checked the sensors reading in the BMC, and, bang, the system fans are read just fine, but just two of them (SC5299 UP chassis has just two):
dpccli> sensors -v
06/02/10 | 18:56:16 | BB +1.8V SM | ok | 1.78 | Volts
06/02/10 | 18:56:17 | BB +3.3V | ok | 3.30 | Volts
06/02/10 | 18:56:17 | BB +3.3V STBY | ok | 3.24 | Volts
06/02/10 | 18:56:18 | BB +5.0V | ok | 4.94 | Volts
06/02/10 | 18:56:18 | Processor Vcc | ok | 1.14 | Volts
06/02/10 | 18:56:19 | BB Ambient Temp | ok | 32.00 | Celsius
06/02/10 | 18:56:19 | CPU Fan | ok | 867.00 | RPM
06/02/10 | 18:56:20 | System Fan 1 | ok | 3146.00 | RPM
06/02/10 | 18:56:20 | System Fan 2 | ok | 3068.00 | RPM
06/02/10 | 18:56:21 | P1 Therm Margin | ok | -68.00 | Celsius

Next, i repeated the BMC&SDR update and this time i have selected the "Other Chassis" option during the SDR firmware update.Selected all the fans that are installed, update completed and server rebooted.Login to BMC, the update seems that it had worked, all fans are showing:dpccli> sensors -v06/02/10 | 19:19:19 | BB +1.8V SM | ok | 1.78 | Volts06/02/10 | 19:19:19 | BB +3.3V | ok | 3.30 | Volts06/02/10 | 19:19:20 | BB +3.3V STBY | ok | 3.24 | Volts06/02/10 | 19:19:20 | BB +5.0V | ok | 4.94 | Volts06/02/10 | 19:19:21 | Processor Vcc | ok | 1.14 | Volts06/02/10 | 19:19:21 | BB Ambient Temp | ok | 32.00 | Celsius06/02/10 | 19:19:22 | Chassis Fan 1 | ok | 1750.00 | RPM06/02/10 | 19:19:22 | Chassis Fan 2 | critical | 0.00 | RPM06/02/10 | 19:19:23 | Chassis Fan 3 | ok | 3150.00 | RPM06/02/10 | 19:19:23 | Chassis Fan 4 | ok | 3360.00 | RPM06/02/10 | 19:19:24 | Chassis Fan 5 | ok | 3290.00 | RPM06/02/10 | 19:19:24 | P1 Therm Margin | ok | -66.00 | Celsiusdpccli>Now i have to figure out why the Chassis Fan 2 is not read this time (after the first update it was read by the BMC...), because the fan is spinning just fine.Thank you Edward for your help!- Subscribe to RSS Feed
