iaStor Event 9 - RAID 82801GR/GH

Jump to solution

Had one hard drive fail. It was a Seagate ST3250310AS. I replaced both old discs with Seagate ST3250310CS discs. Now, I get iaStor timeout errors in Win 2003 (event 9) right after the SQL server does a database backup (~20GB). Sometimes the PC locks up upon completion of the backup. Do I have bad discs? Do I need to upgrade software/driver for the controller? Below is the error event and the report from the Intel Matrix Storage Console. Thanks.

ERROR (follows the backup every time)

Re: iaStor Event 9 - RAID 82801GR/GH

While I was waiting for a reply yesterday, I found a few articles about issues with LPM and Intel's controllers. Following that discovery I added some keys to the registry (see "REGISTRY FIX" below). Last night, the backup ran again. I just took a look at the Event Viewer and the errors are gone.

I know my drivers and BIOS are definitely out of date. The server machine rarely gets touched as its purpose is to run a database for Microsoft Dynamic RMS for a 24/7 convenience store. I find it odd that this issue presented itself in the first place, as the replacement drives are almost identical to the old ones. I will check back tomorrow and verify that errors are gone. If they come back, I will follow the advise in the previous reply.

Hi,

According to the report you sent us the drives are working fine. As a recommendation, please make sure you have the latest BIOS and latest ESRT2 driver from our download center.

Another day has passed, and still error free. Thanks for looking Dan. I'm going to mark this as answered but I will also provide links to the software updates that are recommended.
