How do I read Tab-delimited text from an external file?

Can someone please tell me how to read tab-delimited text from an external file (ie data from Excel saved as a tab-delimited text file)? The field sizes vary throughout the file and I can't seem to find a way to read the data correctly. I'm using Microsoft FPS 4.0, w/Win 98.

This forum is for users of Compaq Fortran products. I suggest you post in the microsoft.public.fortran newsgroup - or do yourself a favor and move up to Compaq Visual Fortran!
