Currently, we are using a single host as flexlm license manager host. We would like to have redundant license host servers.
I went through the flexlm user guide to understand the requirements. As per my understanding, we need to do below steps for the migration of licenses to redundant model:
- We need to register three unique hosts/hostid’s on https://registrationcenter.intel.com site.
- Once we submit, a single new license file will be generated having details of all three hosts
- We need to start the flexlm license server on these 3 hosts with the license file generated in Step 2.
Could you please add if anything else is required?
Few queries:
- Currently, in the client configurations, we are using a CNAME pointing to the single host.
Below is the client license file:
SERVER intel-licensehost-cname ANY 28518
USE_SERVER
Do we need to add all the servers in the client file (as below)?
SERVER intel-licensehost-cname1 ANY 28518
SERVER intel-licensehost-cname2 ANY 28518
SERVER intel-licensehost-cname3 ANY 28518
USE_SERVER
- Once I have clarity on query 1, I would check if any downtime would be required for the activity.

Hello,
Please refer to this article on setting up redundant servers:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/redundancy-server-notes
Yes, you will need to generate a license with correct Host names and HostIDs:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/change--serverhost-data-node-locked-or-floating-license
Please let me know if the above helps.
