Intel G35 with Vista Keeps Resetting Screen Resolution

I have an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI motherboard with Intel G35 Chipset running latest drivers under Windows Vista. This machine is a media centre connected to a Sony Bravia KDL-46X2000 LCD Television via HDMI.

The Bravia is a Full HD Panel and I have configured the Display Adapter to use 1920x1080 resolution. Displays beautifully.

However, on random occasions when I start the machine up the screen resolution will reset back to what looks like 800x600. (Bravia shows this as 720p).

Having tried troubleshooting this on several forums, some people have suggested that it is becauseI have started the computer prior to turning on the Television.

The problem *may* be related to Hibernation as I typically Hibernate this computer.

Windows Media Centre is OK becauseI have configured it to force 1080p when it starts so it usually does the right thing, although on a couple of occasions if WMC was running when I hibernated, then on resume even WMC does not reset the screen resolution.

Is there any way to force Vista to always use the resolution I set?

Does Vista read EDID information "on the fly" or is EDID information captured by the BIOS at machine startup and held for others to consume?

The other issue I am observing is that whenever the TV receives a new resolution it will display "720p" or "1080p" etc. Interestingly as I use Vista (eg. Web Browsing) even though the resolution does not change I periodically see "1080p" reappear on my screen. It's not frequent so I can live with it, but I'm wondering if that is somehow related.

Any help gratefully received.

I can report a similar and likely related issue with the same mothrboard.

Hooked up to my Bravia 32" LCD, graphics are set to native 1360x768. However, when I switch inputs on the TV and return to the PC HDMI input, resolution has been reset to 800x600.

Actually, it sets to 1360x768 but when the Tv is set to an alternate input, I think the PC is rersetting rez. This manifests if I have a fullscreen window open (SageTV). When I return to the PC input, that full-screen app no longer displays correctly.

I would love to find a way to force the graphics accelerator to 'stick' to a resolution, no matter what.

I have exactly same problem, same motherboard with Windows XP. I was previously running Windows Vista and I think I spotted the same behaviour there.

I'm using Mirai LCD FullHD TV as my monitor with 1080p resolution but if I turn off my TV while my computer is running, the resolution switches automatically to something totally else than 1080p when I turn the TV back on.

Sometimes it switches to low resolutions like 640x??? and sometimes it switches to higher resolutions like 1???x???, with higher resolutions my TV reports that signal is 1080p even though it isn't.

I'm running latest drivers, please fix this annoying problem.

Yes, this is being seen by many. Since Intel Customer Service reps don't read this Forum, I suggest you all contact them. The only way to get this fixed is if Intel is informed about the issue.
