The answer used to be a clear "No", but a year after RealSense launched, things are a bit less black and white. Although RealSense officially needs a modern Intel Core processor, some of its simpler functions have been shown to work with a non-Intel or non-Core chip. These include basic RGB features like webcam video, processing of raw camera data streams and possibly crude "blob tracking" of hand movement.
The RealSense specifications ask for an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 whose architecture is 4th Generation or newer (Haswell type processor or later). They stopped making Core 2 Duo about 8 years ago according to the Intel chart I looked up, so it's fair to assume that it's not a Gen 4 chip and is way too old to work with RealSense.
The AMD A8 may be a different story, since it is a more recent chip. If you are hoping to use your AMD for the more advanced camera features such as hand and face tracking then you are not likely to get that working with your AMD.

Hi all,
I'd like to share with every one my experience.
I've tried unsuccesfully RealSense SDK, since the first release with F200, and later with R200, with this CPU:
- Core i7 4960X (Ivy Bridge-E)
- Xeon E5 2640 V2 (Ivy Bridge-E)
- Core i3 3240
- AMD APU A10 7850K
- AMD APU A8 7650K
- AMD FX 8150
The cam, with AMCap Utility works if you use standard driver, or virtual drivers. But if you enable Depth Driver, you will experience something like USB trouble. AMCap is very useful to understand if your system is ok for RealSense or not. The key is the correct functioning of Depth Driver. If this driver will not work, don't be afraid, you have nothing damaged, simply your system is incompatible with RealSense SDK.
Now, I work fine with:
- Core i3 4000M (on laptop)
- Core i7 4770K (Haswell)
- Core i7 4790K (Devil Canyon)
- Core i5 4670K (Haswell)
As soon as possible, I'll made by myself a new PC with Sky Lake CPU.
Bye
Stefano
