Why did they change my Serial number?

Hi:

Its been 2 months of trying to install the latest revision of the Fortran compiler from Intel - that is whenever I had a few minutes I'd try to install, without any success. It refused my valid serial number giving a totally incomprehensible error message.

I've also explored the Intel website to try and find out why the installation refused to work. Exploring the Intel website is like going around the interior of a donut - you might think you are getting somewhere, but you aren't.

Today I finally figured out what was the problem: THEY CHANGED MY SERIAL NUMBER!

In case anyone else is having this problem, consider that the same thing may have happened to you.

QUESTION (for the record): WHY DID THEY DO THAT?

Dear customer,

The formerly Intel Visual Fortran Compiler Professional Edition 11.1 has now been upgraded to Intel Visual FortranComposer XE 2011. To upgrade the product, a new license will be generated as new componentis added in Composer XE product, and the old license will be retired.

Here is an article on XE product upgrade for your reference:

We are sorry for any inconvenience we bring to you.

Thank you.

Next time you do something like that, how about putting a sentence into the email announcement...

Something like:

"Pleae notice that your serial number has been changed. The NEW number is .....".

Reading "XE product upgrade documentation" is not high on my bucket list (assuming it could be found in the first place.....).
