Xeon Phi 71S1P Specifications?

Hi,

I purchased a used Phi coprocessor. The sticker on it says 71S1P. Does anyone know what the specifications of this card are? It shows up in a couple random intel documents, but no specs.

I was able to get it working in my DL380p g8 server (with GPU riser and external psu). I get the following output from micinfo:

	Board
		Vendor ID : 0x8086
		Device ID : 0x225c

Looks kinda like a 7110P, but oddly with only 8GB memory. Anyone know anything more about this card?

Thanks!

I just tried a 7110P, which has 16gb of ram according to the official specs, and it shows the same GDDR output, so perhaps that means something else.

Anyone know anything about the 71S1p co-processor?

Not sure about the 71S1P but the 31S1P was a special build that containes 8GB of memory instead of the usual 6GB that came with the standard 3120P. I believe they were slated for China but got intercepted and sold off cheaply due to some governnment export ruling change.

Possibly the same fate befell the one you have there. Not a lot of information about it online.

Update: According to someone selling some of these in December:

These are similar to the 7110P and 7120P in terms of specs (61 cores, 16GB on-chip memory), but have the earlier B1 stepping.

Cheers.

A follow up on this. I tried both a 71S1P and my 7110P in a new system that definitely supports 16GB Phis (asus Z10 WS motherboard). Turns out both have 8GB of memory, despite having the larger 61 core chip...I guess Intel deactivated 8GB of the on chip RAM for these particular ones. My 7110P is B1 stepping...perhaps none of the B0 or B1 stepping Phis have 16GB?

That was me selling them, haha. I thought they had 16GB, but turns out they might not. I only had one person contact me back, though, and I gave them a partial refund for the mistake.

from all specs that I can find, a 7110P should have 16 GB of RAM (e.g. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon_Phi )

What does 'lspci -v -v ' tell you on the host command line; in the output for the Xeon Phi card there should also the amount of memory listed. For my 5110P I get

02:00.0 Co-processor: Intel Corporation Xeon Phi coprocessor 5100 series (rev 11)
	Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 2500
	Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+
	Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 32
	Region 0: Memory at 21c00000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=8G]
	Region 4: Memory at cb900000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)

which is what I'd expect. I've got a 721-P lying around here as well, and I know that it has 16 GB of RAM. I don't know the stepping value of that card, hwoever.

HTH, JJK

See, that's what I thought, too. But I now have 5 working xeon Phi 7110P's with B1 stepping manufactured from 2013-2015 and they ALL only have 8GB. I now have a 7120P with C0 stepping, too, and it shows 16GB with micinfo, so I now know that that memory entry in micinfo is definitely accurate.

I'll try the lspci -vv command and look. Is it lspci -v -v or -vv?

Thanks!

-vv or -v -v is the same.

As for your 71S1P cards: it might very well be that those are "Intel Special" cards with less memory than the normal 7110P; they've done similar things with the 31s1p (6 GB vs 8 GB, IIRC)

Results!

I ran lspci -vv on 4 of the 7110P's I have, two of which were made in 2015. All have 8GB of memory, which agrees with micinfo. My 7120P shows 16GB.

Maybe all 7110P's are actually 8GB? Or all B1 stepping Co-processors are max 8GB?  Very odd.

I bought some of these from Mr. Storey (great seller by the way)

I am a collector and wanted some for my museum.  I took apart one of the 71S1Ps to see what it is.

It has 32 2Gbit Elpida GDDR5 RAM chips for 8GB of RAM.  The processor is a 1.1GHz/61-core Xeon Phi 7100 SR0Y7

That would match with the Xeon Phi SE10P
