Desktop Board DH77EB Memory and SSD compatibility

I'm currently running Widows 7 Pro on a desktop computer with an Intel DH77EB motherboard.

I've recently acquired 16 GB of DDR4 3200 memory (2 x  8 GB sticks). Can these be used on the DH77EB motherboard?

I've also acquired a high performance PCie SSD (Leven ModelJPS800). The DH77EB motherboard does have several PCie slots, but this SSD only uses 4 contacts of the short (extended) side of the PCie connector (i.e., does not fully utilize all of the short side contacts). Same question as above, can these be used on the DH77EB motherboard?

That SSD has a M.2 Type M connector. It does not plug into *any* of the connectors on your EB board (indeed, M.2 connectors did not yet exist when this board was created). You need a card carrier, like the example one that I referenced, which converts from the M.2 connector to a PCIe x4 connector.
Next, the EB board has a PCIe x16 connector that was more or less designed specifically to support a graphics card. It is unclear whether the BIOS included the bifurcation support necessary to support a x4 card being plugged in. I would hope so, but I couldn't find any mention of this in the TPS. You'd just have to try and see what happens...

I am sorry, but you cannot use DDR4 memory in this motherboard.

I believe you can use certain NVMe SSDs with these older systems, but I don't recommend it as there are complications:

  1. You must use a x4/x8/x16 PCIe slot - which in your case, since you have only one such slot (the x16), means you cannot have a graphics card plugged into the board at the same time.
  2. You must have a PCIe x4 riser card to mount this SSD into. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYWPT915.
  3. You cannot boot from the NVMe SSD! The board's BIOS does not support NVMe boot. You must have a SATA SSD/HDD/SSHD to boot from.

Again, I repeat, I do not recommend trying to use an NVMe SSD.

Hope this helps,

Scott,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

While it's obvious from your reply that I can't use the memory cards, the use of the SSD is still TBD because the PCie connector that you reference is not the connector on my SSD card (please see the attached photo).

I'd appreciate any other info you might find about this SSD.

Thank you.

Again, thank you for your prompt reply and explanation.

Well, it looks like both the memory and SSD are destined for my grandson and his state-of-the-art gaming computer!

Thanks for the post, Ragulan.

I, of course, realize that this MB has reached EOIS, but at  82 years old, so have I, resulting in an inseparably compatible pair that can accomplish almost any task required.

As for the "almost", I do have a high end laptop running windows 10, that I wake whenever a task is plagued  with Windows 7 incompatibility (such as doing my income tax returns).

So as me and my trusty companion race hand-in-keyboard headlong toward EOL, I can rest assured knowing that when that point is reached, one of us can easily be replaced, and the other won't actually care.

If there were an award for best post of the year, I would nominate yours.
