VROC Driver for Windows Server 2019 Std.

Hello,

I'm, using the Supermicro X11DPH-T with two Silver 4108 and two

INTEL 7600p NVMe SSD as a VROC device.

With Server 2016 Std. it runs very fine. But now I must update the System to Server 2019 Std., but there is still no driver available until today.

The driver Intel_RSTe_VROC_Win_5.5.0.2015_2019.03.13 doesn't work.

The Windows setup loops for hours while trying to install the driver.

The BIOS is updated to the newest.

Thanks for help!

Manfred

Hi MJess1,

Thank you for your contact to Intel® SSD Support Group with your request for support on Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) and Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe) Driver for Windows Server 2019*.

We are very sorry to hear the Intel provided driver has not worked on your system.

We have found your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Supermicro* has released a driver that can be downloaded from the following Link: https://www.supermicro.com/wftp/driver/VROC/

For your case at this moment, our recommendation is to confirm directly with your OEM Supermicro* for additional support on your VROC driver installation.

We hope you find this information useful. If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know.

Have a nice day.

Best regards,

Hi Santiago,

oops, I’ve searched for a driver on Supermicro’s website,

but there wasn’t any.

So this is an example for a bad maintained driver website.

And there isn't a driver on the related driver DVD too.

Ok, now I've tried it out and it works.

But could there be a bug in the setup?

The install routine loops again and after 30 minutes I press ESC and then a wonder happens:

The RAID is available!

All previously defined partitions are visible.

Maybe this technology isn't fully developed and

supported and so I will setup the production system with a regular RAID add-on-card.

Many thanks and

kind regards

Manfred

Hi MJess1,

Thank you for your reply to Intel® SSD Support Group.

We just wanted to emphasize Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) is a fully developed technology and as an OEM product, Intel® provides generic versions of hardware, software and drivers to manufacturers. Your OEM is responsible for altered features, customization incorporated, or other changes made.

With all information available, since this is a Driver issue, it’s a good idea to contact Supermicro* for your need of using Intel® VROC instead of a RAID add-on-card on your production setup, our recommendation is to confirm directly with your OEM Supermicro* for additional support on this particular issue and compatible hardware.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Have a nice day.

Hi Santiago,

for now we will use a RAID Controller with SAS 12 G SSD's in our production Systems.

The test system shall run a while until there is an adequate supply with drivers.

Thanks for support!
