5Ghz hotspot not working on AX210

Hello,

 

I have purchased an AX210 module to use it for hotspot. It works ok but only in 2.4GHz mode.

When you switch to 5GHz, you get the following error message in Windows: "The selected network band isn't availableSelect a different band and try again".

I have the latest driver installed, no any other technical problems.

 

My PC config:

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
MB: MSI PRO B660-A
RAM: Kingston Fury DDR4 3600MHz 16GB
GPU: Asus ROG Strix GTX1080
PSU: Seasonic Prime Gold 650
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 2TB

 

Could you please advise?

I noticed that you haven't yet responded to my previous inquiries in the other thread. Providing the requested information would greatly assist us in pinpointing a solution for your issue. Please share the following details with me:

 

1.    What steps were taken to troubleshoot this issue?

2.    Are you having issues on Wifi or Bluetooth or both?

3.    When did it start to happen?

4.    Do you remember if this issue happened after a new OS update or Wireless driver update?

5.    Is this issue happening at home, office environment or both?

6.    What OS version are you using?

7.    Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed in your system or have you changed/installed a new adapter recently?

8.    Have you checked if this issue happens on different networks?

9.    Are you able to reproduce the same issue while on a hardwired connection?

10.What steps do you take to reproduce your issue?

11.Were you able to have your wireless connection in a normal/expected performance before?

12.Have you installed any recent software or hardware in your system?

13.Have tried a roll back to a previous driver version for testing?

14.  Have you rebooted your access-point, router, modem?

 

Please download and scan your system using our tool, Intel® System Support Utility so we can help check your system info first. Once finished downloading, open the tool, click on scan 'Everything', click next, then save the system information to a .txt file. Please provide the .txt file.

This document will be necessary to check your entire system, in order to find possible errors or incompatibilities.

 

Once we've gathered all of this valuable information, we can delve into further research to uncover a viable solution. Your assistance in this endeavor would be greatly valued and immensely appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

 

1. I tried to reinstall the drivers.
I have also found a workaround on the internet, but it's a bit complicated and not completely stable. (Creating a 5Ghz hotspot on smartphone, connecting to it from PC, deactivating the wired connection, then creating a 5Ghz hotspot on PC - after that it works normally at 5Ghz, but only for some time, then it disconnects).

 

2. Connecting to a 5Ghz hotspot on smartphone from PC, and any mode using 2.4Ghz is absolutely stable. But the speed at 2.4Ghz is much much lower. Only 5Ghz hotspot on PC is not working.
Bluetooth seems to work ok, but I don't use it.

 

3. From the very beginning.

 

4. I use the same OS as before (Windows 10 64-bit). Tried to reinstall the drivers using two latest versions, nothing changes.

 

5. Home. I have a 1Gbps wired direct connection to PC and use the Wi-Fi module to create a hotspot.

 

6. Windows 10 64-bit

 

7. Installed a new one, used a cheap USB module before but wanted to upgrade it for better speed and 5GHz support.

 

8. I only have one wired connection. When I try connecting PC to a hotspot on my smartphone, everything works perfectly both at 5 and 2.4. The only problem is creating a 5GHz hotspot on PC.

 

9. It is always on hardwired connection, I don't use a router or any other network equipment.

 

10. Change the hotspot setting from "Any" or "2.4Ghz" to "5Ghz". Start the hotspot. The same error appears every time - "The selected network band isn't available. Select a different band and try again".
I tried to follow some instructions to check the module parameters using "cmd", judging by the info from command prompt, the driver is installed and 802.11ac is supported.

 

11. I have just started using it. Had an identical module before (for a couple of days) with same issues, replaced it but nothing changed.

 

12. Only the AX 210 module. The rest of the system is rock stable. The AX 210 module also works great in all modes but for one - 5Ghz hotspot.

 

13. Tried two latest versions.

 

14. I don't have any of those. The wire is connected to the motherboard, and I use the AX 210 to create a hotspot for my mobile devices.

I have also heard some gossips about regional restrictions (Intel/Microsoft) for such scenarios at some territories. Do you have any info about that? I live in Ukraine.

Based on our investigation, Hotspot setting depends on 100% of the OS and not the wireless adapter. First thing to check is if your AP is set to a 5GHz channel that is allowed in your country. If the OS determines that AP is broadcasting in a not allowed channel, then 5Ghz OS hotspot option will be disabled.


Besides this being an integration, we suggest checking with OEM and OS support for more assistance.

Hi Isaac,

 

I dont know why you are still talking about AP/router after I described you in details and told you several times that I don't have ANY router/AP, I use a wired connection. I use the module for creating a hotspot.

 

The "regulations" message is also not clear at all. Because 5GHz broadcatsing is not restricted in my country at all. Any details?

 

I guess it's another stupid software restriction that Intel/Microsoft agreen upon and implemented.

And now the users need to hear all those fairy tales about drivers, settings etc. etc.

Is it possible to get some direct answer why that is happening to 5Ghz hotspot?

The module I bought is advertised as a modern super puper module with three band support. Althought in fact only 2.4Ghz works properly in all cases. Reputable gentlemen call it false advertising.

Why are you doing it to your customers?

I'm starting to respect hackers.
