Win7 Pro x64 identifies it properly as Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 but 'properties' show no AC details or functionality. I've tried HT and VHT both - no AC connection.
NETSH also does not show "AC" band...

Various drivers have had no affect.
8086 : 08B1 which as far as i can tell actually is an AC-7260. It's a new HP Laptop so I have HP sending a replacement card. The card itself is accessible under the battery cover and I can see it also says "AC". We'll see what happens...

The second option in the picture above (802.11n Channel Width for band 5.2) should be set to "Auto"; that is its default setting.
However, it is possible you will need to enable the wide channel in the router. Then, run the netsh command suggested.

The word "802.11ac" is literally written on the command prompt netsh. If yours doesn't say that, you don't have Wireless-AC.

802.11ac should work by connecting compatible adapter and router at 5GHz. If needed, the wide channel of 160MHz (80+80) should be set up in the router as the wireless adapter is set to "auto" by default.
If you have integrated the wireless adapter in a laptop we suggest contacting the system manufacturer to check if this is a validated adapter for your system. The integration of wireless adapters is only supported by the respective Original Equipment Manufacturer due to general compatibility and country specific wireless regulations.

I think I know why, 802.11ac is only recognised by windows 8.1 (NOT windows 8). the HP Spectre model must have been running Windows 8.1.

I've been watching this thread for a while because my "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" card doesn't seem to support 802.11ac either.
I am running windows 7 also.
Is this card supposed to be able to do 802.11ac?
The hardware Ids for my card:

From TheNorthStar 's post, it's been proven that netsh from command prompt is not able to support 802.11ac. Do you have an AC router? If so, does it connect to WiFi AC (i.e. > 300 Mbps). If so, you have AC if not then it's either windows 7 doesn't support AC or your PC isn't fully compatible with the WiFi AC.

Thanks for the response.
I have an ac router (a netgear r6300). It connects to 802.11n 5GHz at 54 Mbps with excellent reception (full bars). My computer is a lenovo t440s
I guess I'm out of luck this time.

@ shawn
I don't have a netgear AC router, but 54 Mbps is definitely 802.11a not n or ac. I suggest that on your r6300 router to change the mode to "up to 1300 Mbps" on the 5 GHz setting. Also, make sure to enable WMM on the QoS page. Finally, use WPA 2 Personal AES encryption only (not the WPA TKIP + WPA 2 AES combo).
If Windows is managing your WiFi, go to device manager -> network adapter -> 7260AC properties -> advanced -> set the HT mode to "VHT mode"
See if you can connect to speeds greater than 300 Mbps.

So I turned on "Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings" on my router and now I get 800Mbits. :-)
Thanks for the help theveterans.

I have a Asus U33JC (i5) laptop and I just added the same card to it (replacing an Intel Wireless-N 1000) and I am seeing the same thing. I am getting decent speeds (780Mbit/sec a few meters from the router) but Windows still doesn't know about "11ac".
I'm not unhappy, I just find it strange that Windows 7 doesn't recognise 11ac.

I have been having the same issue with my Dell XPS laptop. I bought the 7260 AC card to make the most of the New AC router i have.
I too cant find any indication that it is able to transmit or receive an AC signal. it is not listed in the wireless properties, menus or on the netsh command. It would only connect to on wireless n at 144mbit/s directly infront of the router
In the end i uninstalled the driver and the intel proset software and then just reinstalled the driver only. Now i connect at 800+ mbit/sec. Hooray!. However it still says i am on wireless n!!!
This is obviously a software/driver issue. I'm happy now all is working on my amazing n network ;-) I asume a new driver will come along at some point.

You're using AC since there's no way in hell for N to get 866.7 Mbps. However, Microsoft hasn't updated its netsh system to incorporate 802.11ac for Windows 7. Thus it thinks you're using N. AC WiFi uses the same technology as N with the exception of supporting 256 QAM and 80 - 160 MHz channel width.
Hope this helps. You can easily test for AC by doing a local file transfer. An N300 connection should give you no more than 22 - 24 MB/s transfer rate so if you get at least 30 - 45 MB/s then you're 100% using AC WiFi.
