We are having many issues related to Wi-Fi. I see lots of error like shown below. The wi-fi disconnects pretty frequently.

WLAN AutoConfig service failed to connect to a wireless network.

Network Adapter: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260

Interface GUID: {35287cef-e794-408d-af75-bb5658ecc4d3}

Connection Mode: Automatic connection with a profile

Profile Name:

SSID:

BSS Type: Infrastructure

Failure Reason:The driver disconnected while associating.

RSSI: 255

I have tried most of the suggestion posted in google (like updating the driver/changing the power settings etc) But the problem still continues. Pls suggest what else i can try. We have lenovo laptops (around 400-500).

Hello dnmech,

We understand that you're receiving issues with constant wireless disconnections.

In order to better assist you, we would like some more information:

1. From one of the systems affected, while connected to your network. Please download and run the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Intel® System Support Utility. Scan for "everything" then save and manually upload the report.

2. What is the brand, model, and if possible, firmware version of your wireless access points.

If you would like to share this privately, let us know and we'll send you a direct message for you to reply to.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Hello dnmech,

To start off, we would like to suggest the following:

1. Update to the latest wireless drivers. For the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260, you should now be on driver version 20.0.2.3:

- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27206 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for IT Admins, for driver only or https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005730/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html silent installation.

- Or, https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27203 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows® 10.

If the issue continues with this driver, please let us know.

Best regards,

Carlos A.

Thanks for your suggestion. But are you saying that there are any bug/issue in previous versions which is causing below issues. Updating the driver is liking killing the fly with sledgehammer. I would like to know what you found out in the log files which suggested that the drive is the main issue. I would like to know more details about the symptoms. Also, we have more than 400 laptops in our environment and updating the drivers will not be so easy task. So whatever i need to suggest to my management, it has to be substantiated with proper justification. I hope you understand. If you are not able to provide me my answers, pls escalate this to your senior engineer.

Hello dnmech,

Updating to this driver is important for several reasons:

1. You're currently showing driver version 19.50.1.5 which is three releases old.

2. There have been several fixes for loss of network connectivity while roaming addressed in these releases (specifically the 19.70.0 PROSet).

3. PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers version 20.0.2 includes fixes for the /thread/118740 Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) Protocol Vulnerability.

Another thing we would like to suggest is to https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005585.html lower your roaming aggressiveness to "2. Medium-low." However, if your usage allows it, you may disable automatic roaming by setting this to "1. Lowest."

The logs provided did not reflect any immediate red flags.

Best regards,

Ok. are you saying that version 19.71 has newer updates which will reduce the issue. For start, we can upgrade to 19.71 and see how it goes.

Hello dnmech,

As per our https://security-center.intel.com/advisory.aspx?intelid=INTEL-SA-00101&languageid=en-fr security advisory we would advise updating to the current driver. However, troubleshooting-wise, I agree. It's best to make one change at a time in order to better identify which actually resolved the problem.

Let us know if the issue becomes resolved.
