Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 has intermittent latency issues

Title.

Drivers are the latest, this is my second machine with this issue. Other machines in the network don't have this problem.

Live chat said I could either wait for an update to the driver or ask OEM to replace the card. OEM asks to install some outdated driver they provide or restore factory settings.

I'm in stalemate and can't really do anything from here. Isn't there someone that can help me troubleshoot the issue and fix it?

Hello,

I'm having the same issue with my Wireless-AC 3160 adapter. I've been reading it's due to some incompatibility issues between the WLAN adapter and TP LINK routers (mine is an N600), but I still can't figure a way to fix the problem. Did you somehow manage to solve it?

I've been playing around with several drivers and configurations. As of now, the one that best works for me is:

Driver version: 7.1.0.19 (which I believe is the latest one)

Advanced configuration (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections > [Right click on Wi-Fi] > Properties > Configure > Advanced):

Wireless Mode: 802.11b/g (in order to disable AC protocol)

HT Mode: HT Mode (same as above)

Ad Hoc QoS Mode: VMM Disabled

U-APSD: Disabled

With this, I get spikes less often and they last shorter, plus increase in response time isn't bigger than 500% (at very maximum), whereas with the default configuration it was getting over 1000%. It'd be good if you could give me a hand getting rid of the spikes at all.

I don't see any rules regarding bumping around here, so I came back. OEM drivers don't solve anything for me (they released some just a day ago). After 5 months Intel closed the ticket, ultimately saying "We can't do anything, go fiddle with OEM". When I bought the machine I didn't see anything around for it, but nowadays there are a lot more posts in the forum about them. I am sorry to say I haven't found a single combo of settings that will help to get rid of spiking issues, and for me there are not that actually make them appear less often. Really sad that this is happening and we can't do anything to stop it.

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

The best driver I've found for the AC 7260 is over a year old.

Wouldn't hurt to try...

Hi mate... Sry for bringin this issue to life but I experience just the same thing while playing..... Tried a lot of stuff ( regedit, advanced settings to wifi adapters, some drivers ( OEM , and latest) and some 3rd party soft like TCP Optimizer... Still no success... Thank you in advance... My wifi adapter is the same .. The PC is Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1M9 ( 1M9 is available only in Bulgaria, but I assume it is some kind of analog to other model)

There are many factors that can cause latency issues. Make sure you apply the following actions before considering other options:

1. Make sure you are using the most recent driver for the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 from the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support, or from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/75442/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-3160 Intel Download Center.

2. Apply the configuration from the advisory: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-030709.htm?wapkw=wifi+recommended+settings Wireless Networking — What are the Recommended Settings for 802.11n Connectivity?

3. Go to the Windows* Power Options - Change plan settings - Advanced power settings, and set the Wireless adapter power plan to Maximum Performance, when plugged in and on battery.

4. Disable Bluetooth and check if this helps with the connection. This is normally done with a switch in the chassis of the PC. It might be also be done with a key combination or in the OS configuration.

5. If the problem is frequent delays during continuous ping. You might want try the fix mentioned in the following threads:

Thank u for the reply..... As our friend here, I tried everything u sugested to us both. I am running x64 Win 7 7601 with 17.16.0.4 version of the 3160 WiFi AC adapter. The random ping spikes are still present and I am wondering it this is something hardware related although I noticed some improvemens and less ping spikes but still... they are there and when I say less... I mean from 3-7 minutes per spike to 3-10 minutes per spike which is still annoying and frustrating. All my other devices dont have this problem Thank u in advance if u keep trying to solve this with me

Please check with the manufacturer of the access point and confirm you are using the most recent firmware for it.

If the issue persists after the actions previously recommended, this may be due to signal interference, or contention from other networks, specially if the Wireless router is not capable of 802.11ac connectivity.
