Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 Ryzen/BSOD issues

Hello

I have same issue as topic starter but with Intel 3128 WiFi adapter. Same errors in system log and BSODs.

As I can see March driver update fixed this issues for 9xxx and 18xxx lines.

But for 3xxx line driver in March and February wasn't changed (19.51.11.2). And it's very buggy on Ryzen platform.

When can we get new stable driver for 3xxx line?

In order to better assist you, please provide the following information:

 

 

1. Intel® System Support Utility report

 

1. Download the latest https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293 Intel® SSU

 

2. While connected to your WiFi network, run the scan for "everything."

 

3. Save and name the report.

 

2. Is this a factory installed adapter, or a replacement part?

 

3. What is the exact BSOD error code/message?

 

4. When do the BSOD crashes occur, or are they random?

Hi Carlos A

1. I made SSU report, how can I send it you without posting it here for everyone?

2. Factory installed on MSI B350I PRO AC motherboard.

3. BSODs are DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x000000d1) and BAD_POOL_CALLER (0x000000c2) caused by netwtw04.sys

Windows System log full of events such as:

1. Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 : The network adapter has returned an invalid value to the driver.

2. 5007 - TX/CMD timeout (TfdQueue hanged)

3. The network interface "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets. Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset. This network interface has reset 25 time(s) since it was last initialized.

Tons of these events you can find in my SSU report.

4. BSODs/hangups occurs on intensive WiFi usage, for example large file download.

Connection unstable all the time, adapter often can't connect to default network after boot up or suddenly became disabled.

My hardware specs:

Main Board: MSI B350I PRO AC

Video Card:AMD Ryzen 5 2400G APU

CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 2400G APU

Memory:Team Dark Pro DDR4 16GB 2x8GB 3200Mhz CL14-14-14-31

SSD/ HDD:Samsung 850EVO 250GB

Sound Card:Onboard ALC887

Operating System: Win 10 pro 1709 16299.309

Do you experience the BSOD crashes even if using the latest drivers from your motherboard manufacturer instead of our latest retail/generic versions? It's also important to make sure that you're using the latest BIOS release.

  1. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B350I-PRO-AC# down-driver&Win10%2064 MSI B350I PRO AC* Support and Downloads.
    1. Bluetooth: Driver > Win10 64* > Other Drivers
    2. WiFi: Driver > Win10 64* > LAN Drivers

 

Make sure to follow our https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html clean installation method if you wish to switch from retail to OEM driver packages. While retail and OEM driver versions may match, your OEM driver has been customized and should be the best fit for your system.

 

 

It's important to mention that the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-3168-brief.html Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 is a 1x1 adapter. This means it has single antenna supporting one data stream, the second antenna is used for Bluetooth®.

 

 

Our recommendation is to use 1x1 adapters on Wireless-AC (802.11ac) networks whenever possible, as Wireless-N is a legacy (2007) standard that is more susceptible to interference and greatly limits your maximum connection rate. Your other devices may not be affected by this, as 2x2 is a more common antenna configuration.

 

 

 

 

Based on your SSU report we were able to gather the following:

 

  • Authentication: WPA2-Personal, CCMP.
  • Channel: 4
  • Radio type: 802.11g/n
  • Connection Rate: 150 Mbps
  • Signal Strength: 99%
  • Driver: 19.51.11.2 (current)

If your connection rate is low, interference may cause signal degradation, which can trigger the driver to request an adapter reset in order to recover your signal quality. Connection rate is not the same as download speed (https://blogs.intel.com/technology/2014/06/throughput-stupid/ more info).

 

 

Here we can make the following recommendations:

 

  1. If your router is an 802.11n model, upgrade to an 802.11ac capable model.
  2. If your router IS Wireless-AC capable, make the following adjustments in your https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005585/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html advanced adapter settings.
    1. Channel Width for 2.4 GHz: 20 MHz
    2. Channel Width for 5 GHz: Auto
    3. Transmit Power: 5. Highest
    4. Roaming Aggressiveness: 1. Lowest (this disables automatic roaming, increases performance).
  3. Manually choose a wireless channel on your router. For the 2.4 GHz band we recommend channels 1, 6, or 11.
  4. If possible we do recommend the 5 GHz band, as there is less interference, and it allows for wider channels. Data rate is directly proportional to channel bandwidth.
    1. In the 5 GHz band we can recommend channels: 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157 and 161.

Short testing (about 2 hours) of new bios - issues with WiFi card are gone.

I'll continue testing it and post results later.
