Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 problems

It's been a while (over a year now) since I have problems with my laptop: ASUS VivoBook15 X505.

OS version: Windows 11 Home

Shortly, the problem is the wireless adapter: sometimes, while I'm working Wi-Fi disconnects giving me the message "manually restart your Wi-Fi" and the driver suddenly stops working (sometimes gives me error 45: "the device it's not plugged in" or error 10 and so on...

I already have done a lot of troubleshooting: I had a clean installation of Windows 11 (before I had Windows 10 Home); a clean installation of the latest wireless driver, and a lot of other things suggested by users in different forums and threads.

But, in the end, I still have problems.

In the attachments, I give you the SSU report

Thanks for your time.

Hi R_occo,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

What you are experiencing can be bothersome and have a negative impact on your productivity.  We will work with you to find a solution to your concern.

Since you have already tried a clean installation of the driver and reinstalling Windows, we suspect that there is a possible problem with the hardware.  Before we go to that conclusion though, we have some instructions listed on this article, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000031150.html that could help you particularly the steps that involve cold booting the system and updating and resetting the BIOS to defaults. Please take note though that we recommend that you seek assistance in completing these procedures with the help of an Asus technician.

Additionally, please answer the following questions:

1. Are parts of the laptop too hot to touch particularly the surface that is near the wireless card?

2. Have you already tried reverting to the wireless driver from Asus?

Thank you for the response.
I already followed some of the instructions listed in the article, I haven't tried the cold boot and the BIOS reset tho, i will try and let you know.

Unfortunately, my warranty is expired and I cannot have ASUS assistance

1. Technically no, but I need to check better

2. If for reverting you mean reset the driver, yes I already tried that (even with a clean installation as listed in the article)

Hi R_occo,

Thank you for your response and for considering our suggestions.

As a reminder for the cold boot, if you are uncomfortable to remove the battery, as an alternative, you can use the laptop to drain the battery to 0 percent or to a point where it will not turn on unless you plug the adapter.

As an additional suggestion, you can also disable the power saving of the wireless adapter. You may refer to this page, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005879/wireless/legacy-intel-wireless-products.html, for instructions.

We will wait for your update.

Hi, I tried the various solutions, and it seems to work now.

In case it will break again, I was wondering if a replacement of the adapter should work or not. I found the same on Amazon for 30€ ish
Technically yes because the problem is linked to the hardware?!

Thanks for your time.

Hi R_occo,

Much obliged for your update.

We are glad to know that your system seems to work now.

It is a good idea to think about getting a new card of the same model; however, there are challenges when you integrate a card that is sold separately. You can refer to this page for more information, Regulatory Information Regarding Wireless Hardware Installation or Upgrade.

Alternatively, you may want to explore in getting a wireless USB dongle as that is exempt from the difficulties listed on the link above.

We hope for your understanding on this.

Thank you for your cooperation and for being a pleasant customer.

We will be closing this thread. If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer being monitored.

Best Regards,
