Intel Killer Wi-Fi VR Mode Not Working Cannot Connect

I have an Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX1690i 160MHz card on my Alienware x16 R1. I can successfully start "VR Mode" in the Killer App with an SSID and Password. However, I am unable to connect to that SSID or see it broadcasting from any Wi-fi device including my Quest 3 VR headset, my iPhone, or other computers with wi-fi capability.

I have tried adding it as a "Hidden" Wireless network, but I have found no way to connect with it from any device. If I have to configure it as a manual connection, please provide the detailed settings including any wireless security settings (WEP2, WEP3, etc) that I should use to connect to it.

My goal is to connect my Quest 3 headset directly to my laptop so I can be able to play Steam VR and have a direct Wi-fi connection to my laptop from the headset to reduce bandwidth and connectivity issues while playing. You can see that this is the EXACT purpose of the VR mode in Intel's Killer Wi-fi software: https://www.msi.com/blog/killer-doubleShot-pro-x3-and-wireless-vr

I've included all my software versions and information below. Please explain what I can do to resolve this issue and how to properly configure it.

Killer Software Version: 3.1625.211.1

I also ran the Intel System Support Utility, checked to scan "Everything" and have included that report in this post.

Please help me make the most of this amazing feature. I look forward to your response.

Here is the screen shot of the Intel technology I'm trying to use. You can see it is directly developed for the purpose I'm trying to use it for... I just can't find a way to connect to the Wi-fi hotspot it is supposedly creating. I'm not sure if it's even creating one....

Hello studio3d,

I am continuing to work on this issue and need the following information for further analysis:

  • Is the wireless adapter pre-installed in the system, or was it added later?
  • Are you able to connect to Wi-Fi/BT in normal usage scenario and issue happens only when you try setting up VR? Or the system doesn't see any WIFI at all?
  • Have you attempted to install the latest Intel® Killer™ Performance Suite and update the driver using this tool/application?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

This laptop came with it factory-installed.

Wifi and bluetooth work properly. The only function that doesn't work is the VR feature in the Killer Performance app.

Yes. As stated in my original post, I am using Killer Software Version: 3.1625.211.1. I also included the full intel support report in that post so you could see all my system data. I have re-attached it to this post. Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

Hello studio3d,

Thank you for sharing the details I requested. I would like to verify the Killer Software you have, as your system should originally come with the Killer Intelligence Center Application from the Dell driver page. Alternatively, the Intel® Killer™ Performance Suite is standalone software that can be used with Killer wireless if the OEM download page does not offer the Killer software. We strongly recommend using OEM drivers and software, but you can choose the Intel® Killer™ Performance Suite if you wish to install generic drivers from our Download Center.

Since the issue primarily involves setting up your VR, please give me some time to investigate this further internally, and I will provide another update once available.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Hello studio3d,

Please proceed with the following steps below:

  1. Uninstall the killer software then reboot the PC.
  2. Check if Windows hotspot is enabled.
  3. Check for Windows updates (make sure there are no pending updates).
  4. Install again the latest Killer software version available in Download Center.
  5. If the issue remains please share a video of the issue while reproducing.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I have followed steps 1-4 and I am using Killer Networking Software version3.1625.211.1 just as before as it is still the latest version. When I click to enable the VR mode, the behavior is the same as when I originally started this post. it says it is enabled. However, it does not create a hotspot like it claims.

If you need me to create a video, what software should I use? I don't have any video screen capture software for recording my screen.
