Have updated the driver of Intel PROet/Wireless Software and Drivers - through Intel Driver Update Utility as follows :

have downloaded latest version 18.20.0 and when installed the result is :

installed version 18.20.0.9 (the version 18.20.0 was is information not installed).

Have checked in my laptop and the driver installed is 8.20.0.9. Why there is other version ?

Moreover the Windows Installator has removed the product Intel(R) Cloud Access Manager.

Can you please advise if this installation is proper and why have other version of driver (when istalled I have used the recommended

method).

My wireless devise is Intel(R) Wireless N-7260.

Thank you in advance for reply. Ewa

Hello EWAGOISA,

The version 18.20.0.9 is the current latest version as you can confirm here: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034315.htm Intel® Wi-Fi Products — Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software Driver Versions by Operating System

Once you there, expand the first option the says: Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software 18.20.0 driver versions.

If your wireless adapter is the one installed by factory, Intel recommends that you contact your http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support and always obtain the latest drivers for your systems.

As a second option, you are welcome to try our drivers found in our support page, however, our drivers are generic and may not be compatible to your system.

As for the Intel(R) Cloud Access Manager, unfortunately this product is out of our scope of support since we here deal with the Intel(R) Wireless Adapters. Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply. Additionally I have done as follows :

When tried to install again version 18.20.0 of the driver /indicated as not installed as the result was for version 18.20.09/ there has been opened a window of Intel installer that it must be repaired, finally after the succesful operation have found in device manager that now have the previous driver version 17.16.04 but in the contro panel - programs there is listed Intel PROSet/Wireless software 18.20.0. Do not follow anymore why there are two different information. Originally in device manager it was driver version 16.8.07.

On the site of manufacturer Lenovo (my laptop is Z-710, Windows 8.1 64 bit.) there is no Intel PROSet/Wireless software and driver listed, I had only originally installed a/m earlier version.

Do not know what else is can be done and why now have such differences.. In the Intel Driver Update Utility is mentioned that the version 18.20.0 is not installed and have installed 17.16.04 /it is true as such driver is in device manager/ but in my programs it is listed exactly version 18.20.0...

Would appreciate your assistance and advice.

Thanks and best regards, Ewa

EWAGOSIA,

Regarding this last information, try the following:

1 - Please contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support in order to obtain their latest drivers.

2 - Download and save https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25276/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1- Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Windows 8.1*. - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25276/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1- File name: Wireless_18.20.0_e164.exe

3 - Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", if it is installed. When prompted, choose the option to "Discard settings".

4 - Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager and if an older driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

5 - Install the Intel® Wireless driver. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, make sure to customize the installation and install all the 3 driver components.(if applicable).

This is interesting. I will try it on my computer to see if it fixes up the inconsistent driver versions being reported. I have done that for some other drivers at the recommendation of the manufacturer before, but never for Intel. I've often wondered if old drivers should be manually removed before installing new versions, but since the intel driver update utility and other similar utilities from hp and dell don't do it, I assumed it wasn't necessary. NVidia has an option to do a clean install when installing their drivers, to prevent this sort of thing from happening. If this is required for intel drivers to report the correct version, the installation utilities should prompt the user to ask if previous versions should be removed.

Based on the suggestion to uninstall previous drivers, I tried that on my computer. It still did not address the issue that the driver update utility does not report the correct driver version for the Bluetooth device. It's reporting the version of the wifi device correctly and also reporting the version of the wifi driver for the Bluetooth device. Here is a screen capture:

Here is what the device manager thinks:

Here is what Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features thinks:

Here is the driver file that I installed:

I have the most recent version of the driver installed, but you'd never know it.

Intel, you need to do better.
