Intel Wireless AC 7260 Bluetooth stops working

I just bought an Intel NUC and had it running and working for a couple of days. Yesterday, I was streaming music to my bluetooth speakers and then it stopped. I checked device manager and bluetooth is not showing error code 43. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers from the intel website but the issue remains. I am currently running windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. attached is the DXDIAG

kabram, I am not sure what your issue is but a new driver release for Bluetooth is coming up soon. Please stay tuned.

@joe_intel, I'm having the same issue that everyone has been reporting:

My setup: NUC BOXD54250WYKH1

Wireless/Bluetooth card: Intel AC 7260

OS: Windows 8.1 Update x64

BIOS: Latest (v 26)

Symptoms:

- Bluetooth works if I physically disconnect and connect the power cord.

- Otherwise it shows up as a failed USB device with error code 43

All released Bluetooth drivers by intel haven't helped. Its encouraging that you mention a new driver is going to be released soon. I hope it fixes this specific problem that folks on this thread have been describing for the last 6 months.

I understood this issue was solved for most of the users on this thread. So, this means that for some of you the power cycle only fixes code 43 temporarily?

If this continues in some systems we need to gather more information about them since it might be a slightly different issue. Is this still happening only in Intel® NUCs or in laptops as well?

I think even the user who reported pulling out the power as a solution replied a few posts later that it didn't work. I can pull the power and have the Bluetooth recognized (NUC) and then on the next shutdown/restart it fails. So at least with the NUC, code 43 is still an issue.

New Dell Laptop with Intel 7260 Bluetooth + Win8.1 64-bit. Bluetooth began having issues after ~2days of use.

Was receiving this event:

The local Bluetooth adapter has failed in an undetermined manner and will not be used. The driver has been unloaded.

Uninstalled/reinstalled multiple versions of drivers from Dell website & Intel, including latest from Intel: bt_17.0.1401.03_e164.

Device Descriptor Request Failed' under Universal Serial Bus Controllers (with a bang mark). Location Port_# 0006.Hub_# 0003, USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\6&1C0B9C3A&0&6, USB\VID_8087&PID_8000\5&2c1032a9&0&14

Tried uninstall/reinstall device- no fix. Tried searching for driver, but can't find one that system will accept. Unable to remove battery from this model without taking out screws underneath. Power off + unplug cable did not fix.

Bit upset that I have a new laptop with Bluetooth that does not work.. Suggestions on how to proceed to fix this?

Just received a crash report, attached.

kabram, that is not what pcm wrote in the previous page; still, let me investigate further.

@Robert_W, you may want to check if you have an option to disable Bluetooth* in BIOS, reboot your system, and then enable it again.

If your issue was not solved with the latest drivers and the suggestions given in this thread, we recommend contacting your nearest Intel support center.

We advise Intel® NUC owners to contact the Intel® NUC (and Desktop boards) support team first if the issue is happening with a wireless adapter installed in this product. For laptops and other mobile devices you can contact the wireless team.

I thought you said there was a Bluetooth driver that was going to be released soon?

And are you saying that Intel is not able to reproduce this error? That the error is unique to just a few folks? I'm confused by your message above.

I am sorry for the confusion, I do not have an ETA but the driver will be released soon.

As far as I can see the issue is only happening to some of you right now.

I made some changes yesterday and was able to get everything running properly (at least for now).

- uninstalled & reinstalled the Intel Bluetooth driver/software - still not working

- deleted the USB device with bang mark (really Bluetooth)

- restarted PC

- installed the latest Intel 7260 wireless driver

- restarted PC - everything started working

Registered just for this thread.

I bought my 7260 for Desktop a week ago on my Windows 8.1 x64 PC. Installed it on Wednesday. It worked for two days and now gives code 43. Bluetooth was using the generic driver at the time.

Installing the updated driver didn't work. Turning the system off, pulling the plug, replacing the plug and turning it back on didn't work. Switching the Bluetooth support service to Automatic (delayed start) and telling it to run didn't work. System restore didn't work.

The wireless works great but it's not worth it to keep a half-defective product.

This solution from Intel Support worked for me:

Do you have the possibility of performing a fresh installation of the OS and drivers?

If yes, please install them in this order:

Bluetooth devices are now being recognized and working correctly. This is for i5 nuc with Windows 8

edit: This is a general solution that worked for me when using the ac 7260 card

Thanks for posting but that solution isn't relevant to me, I don't have an Intel NUC and I don't have the 7260 Mini-PCI, I have the 7260 for Desktop. My computer is custom-built, the only other Intel product in it is the CPU (i5 3670K).

I'd much rather return it and get my money back than reinstall the OS and everything else. It's not worth the hassle.

forteblast, please refer to the discussion below since you are using the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 for Desktop.

I appreciate the link but I've already seen that thread. I don't have one of the mislabeled cables (as I said, I purchased the device recently) so that's not relevant to me. You also suggested a System Restore in that thread, which I tried to no effect.

I rebooted some time ago and had my old USB bluetooth adapter plugged in, because the 7260 for desktop's bluetooth wasn't working, and on system start the USB adapter had a yellow exclamation point symbol in Device Manager instead of the Intel 7260 for desktop. I removed the USB adapter and the Intel adapter worked. I've been hesitant to reboot the system since, fearing it will have the same problem as before.

This definitely seems like a driver problem. If I don't have the USB adapter in on boot, plugging in the Intel adapter registers the bluetooth device in device manager and gives Code 43. No other devices are loaded. When I plug in the USB adapter, it loads the generic bluetooth device plus several other devices including the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. I believe that Intel's driver isn't loading the other devices properly. If I boot with the USB adapter plugged in, it loads the other devices as well and the Intel adapter is able to work...

I don't know if that helps your driver people fix the problem? I'd rather not have to have my USB adapter plugged in for every boot. That's what I was trying to get rid of by buying the Intel adapter!

If you have not done so previously, you might perform a WU (Windows Update for 8.1) in order to get some important BT related updates from Microsoft*.

These are the KBs have Bluetooth related updates:

• KB2896349

• KB2917488

• KB2927446

• KB2928042

• KB2919907

• KB2926971

JohnS,

Toshiba recently (06/04/14) posted "Bluetooth Filter Driver" version 17.0.1414.03 for their Z35 series laptops.

Is 17.0.1405.02 which you just posted a newer driver than the one Toshiba posted? Can you explain these version numbers?

The Toshiba driver is size 5.86Meg yours is 32Meg. Any comment on that?

By looking at the version you say is posted by Toshiba on their site, their version seems to be newer than the generic version that we have posted on the Intel Download Center. OEMs have access to the most recent versions of software and drivers from Intel. Whether or not the OEMs post Intel drivers and software that they have customized for their platforms is entirely up to them. Intel generally posts a generic version of wireless and Bluetooth drivers to our download center site only after the OEMs have received the same or newer drivers and after the OEMs have had a chance to test the drivers with their platforms.

It is always best to check with your OEM first for the latest software and drivers, as the drivers they post have typically been tested with the platforms sold by your OEM. Generic drivers are just that - basic with no OEM specific customizations. If your OEM has the same or newer drivers, then I would recommend that you go with the version your OEM has. Your OEM may not provide support to you if you are using the generic version instead of a version they have posted.
