Intel Wireless-N 7260 fails to connect WLAN and Bluetooth with Windows 8.1

Hello Community!

I recently bought a Lenovo T440s with an Intel Wireless-N 7260 Wireless and Bluetooth chip.

The device is amazing, everything went fluently. I updated all the drivers, the BIOS, my software and uninstalled the waste, like cloud saving services, games and so on. Everthing was perfect until i updated to Windows 8.1.

Since this update, the Wireless-N 7260 won't work properly any more. The internet is not available directly from the OS startup, I have to wait several minutes. My Bluetooth mouse has abrupt failures for several minutes, works then again, but only for 10 minutes approx.

I also tried every driver and ProSET-version from forum threads I read from people with similar problems. The last try was the actual version 16.7.0, but also with that version it won't work.

I am pretty desperate right now, because the notebook itself is one hot ass piece, and I love to work with Windows 8.1 also.

Please Intel, tell me what to do, or even better, release a driver that works!

Hi.

1. Wireless Adapter Model and Hardware IDs from device manager screenshots 1-3 attached.

2. BT Driver Version updating from (working OK) in screenshot 4 attached.

3. Error showing up in device manager against Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4 Adapter "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

The error showing up is accompanied by losses of Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator entry under Bluetooth radios, and the two Bluetooth Device........# 4 entries under Network adapters.

The latest 32 bit bluetooth drivers BT_17.1.1406.01_s32.exe, from the direct download link of the Intel Driver Update Utility look to install correctly, but inspection of Device Manager reveals that instead of an Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4 Adapter under Bluetooth Radios there is now the old Generic Bluetooth Adapter from Microsoft!!!

Reinstalling the drivers (repair) makes no difference. Still the Generic Bluetooth Adapter from Microsoft.

Is this deliberate?

Edit: Power cycling does not resolve the issue. Still the Generic Bluetooth Adapter from Microsoft.

Hello to the entire community,

I'm using the new drivers provided by joe_intel the same day on which posted them on the forum.

I have to say that in fact the bluetooth is greatly improved, since it does not occur more random disconnections. Instead, the problem remains with the wifi. The signal is almost never occur at most and often sudden drops in both signal bandwidth despite my PC (a professional workstation) is absolutely always stops at the same point. The absurd thing is that with a WL-352 Sitecom Wireless USB Micro Adapter of the signal of the wifi was always at the top and had never occurred problems of any kind. If you managed to solve the problems with a bluetooth driver update, I'm really confident that you will be able to do the same even with the WiFi module, but I'm really losing my patience because it is absurd that companies in general, and Intel, sell products without a minimum of testing before release.

I also want to inform the technical department that I have also tried all the various options regarding the function HT (high throughput), trying to disable it, to leave it constant or variable, but none of this has improved the situation.

Please, solve once and for all, people are losing patience and the desire to be taken for a joke.

Thank you

We strongly advise to maintain Windows* 8.1 up to date because there are Bluetooth* related dependencies in some updates.

Hi,

Add also the ZyXEL NWA3560-N on the list with incompatible devices for the uAPSD with N 7260.

After i found this page and i disabled the uAPSD the ThinkPad X240 works without problems in our company WLAN. Before the ultrabook block if i use the WLAN or i could not transfer data over the WLAN.

Hello,

I am suffering from the very same problem. When my Thinkpad E540 resumes from hibernation or from sleep, the adapter cannot connect to my WiFi router.

After reading all the posts here I have tried something else. Somebody wrote that disabling and enabling the Wi-Fi adapter would solve the problem, but that is a little bit inconvenient to make this disable/enable thing manually.

The solution is to create a scheduled task triggered by an event (Source: Power-Troubleshooter; Event ID: 1 - that is the system resumed from a low power state).

I have defined to consecutive tasks as follows:

netsh interface set interface "Wi-Fi" admin=disable

netsh interface set interface "Wi-Fi" admin=enable

It works, at least for me. I hope it will for others as well.

Of course this is not a real solution, only a workaround. But it calms me down to be patient until Intel finds the real solution.

Hi gandalf_jr

you did not mentioned what OS you're using. I've a Lenovo E540 too

Anyway I don't know what happens resuming from hybernation but I can assure you that with last driver (17.1.0.19 dated july 2014) I've solved every issue leaving the parameters of the adapter on default!

Resuming from sleep also works fine.

So please update.

Try this version if you are running Windows 7:

If running Windows 8.1, try this:

Hello Giacomo!

Sorry for not giving my details, but I thought only Windows 8.x users have these kind of problems.

I am using Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo Thinkpad E540.

As for the suggested new driver versions - I have already installed that version - just before I worked out the Task Scheduler solution, but unfortunately the WIFI connection failed right after the next resuming. Maybe the drivers are really sensitive about the WIFI router one tries to use.

Your solution clearly the recommended way to solve the problem, but if that doesn't not work (like for me) for some reasons, there is my workaround.

Best regards, Kalman

Hi,

I just bought a Toshiba Ultrabook E55T-A5320(PSKPJU-01E023) with the Intel Wireless-N 7260 adapter and running Windows 8.1. I been having a lot of problems connecting to WiFi networks, and when I've been able to do it, it only stays connected through short periods of time an suddenly the connection drops.

I've noticed that I only get one or two bars (at most) in the signal strength indicator.

I already tried installing all of the drivers that Intel has released. Please help!

Hi luis664, if you have such low signal strength, even when you are close to the router, the problem may be related to the antennas.

I have an old 802.11g router very close (less than a meter) to the system with AC7260 and I am getting five bars (-34dBm), or 99% signal strength after typing "netsh wlan show interfaces" at the command prompt.

The other router I am currently connected to is 802.11n and it is, at least, thirty meters away from the same Ultrabook*. While I am connected at 5 GHz I am getting four bars (-60/-70dBm), or 80% signal strength. Another system with a different adapter gives me three bars or 60% from the same router, band, and location. No problems whatsoever.

I believe you should be getting similar results depending on the distance; otherwise, you may need to contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm system manufacturer.

Tried this drivers in a clean Windows 8.1 installation: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24220 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24220

Always same problem. Seems to work good for few minutes, and then while downloading the signal suddenly goes down and pause or interrupt the download left (random, and I've faced this problems with so many softwares).

After losing the patience to do a fresh install every time that a new driver comes out (again, I use this device on a workstation, and not to play but to work), I decided to give up, I bought a usb wifi adapter that cost something like 15 € with AC specs,, signal at peak, any interruption, no need for a clean installation of Windows 8.1 pinpoint exact same position of the workstation, router etc.

Goodbye Intel, you've lost a customer.

PS: Please, next time do more tests before commercialise this products.

New drivers (17.0.58) didn't help, still very unstable and useless. Back to my old realtek dongle again.

Hi. I had the same problem that was driving me nuts, brand new dell inspiron 7737 and wifi keeps dropping constantly not letting me play onine games at all or downloading bigger files. I tried as well every possible driver that was meant to fix this issue with no luck and am on latest driver atm (17.0.5.8). I uninstalled pro wireless software and was using driver only and still connection was dropping and disconnecting me completely from my router.

And then i changed setting on my router from 802.11b/g/n to just 802.11b/g (am on 2.4Ghz) and it seems like that sorted my connectivity problems (for last few hours no dropouts and i was able to login to online games without any problems and play for those last few hours).

Now i dont know if that helps anyone but i guess its worth a shot...

I bought the 7260HMW based on past experiences with intel cards. I'm sorry to say that this card falls short. I bought it as an upgrade from a realtek card that I had in my Asus eeepc 1201T. I had to put the realtek card back in it. The 7260HMW was sporadic in its connection and slow when it did connect. I am running Linux Mint 17 with the Mate desktop. Has any progress been made with the drivers or firmware for this card? Is this even a problem that can be fixed? If not I would like to exchange for something I can use.

We appreciate your feedback and your results regarding the latest drivers.

It is also important to bear in mind that there are many variables that affect the operation of the wireless connectivity, especially in the cases where the adapter was installed as an upgrade; the system manufacturer needs to validate such integration in order to comply with the local wireless regulations and all the testing that involves in terms of power utilization, reliability, and performance, which includes the adapter, antennas and chassis.
