OK I'm having problem with my wireless adapter. The symptoms seem to be a little inconsistent so before I give too much detail I'll give you the short version first. When the computer first boots it ether doesn't find any wireless signals or can't connect going into an endless cycle of acquiring a network address of witch it never finds. If you boot up with an Ethernet cable connected it all seems ok and will connect to wireless just fine. If you unplug the data cable it will continue to have connectivity for some time until it drops for no apparent reason, or you reboot without the data cable attached. I've tried two or three different drivers. Two of them are Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 BG Network Connection Version 9.0.4.8 Date 1-17-2006, and Version 9.0.4.39 Date 12-19-2007. I have been told a driver from Intel Version 9.0.4.37 Date 7-25-2007 will work but I can't find it in the Intel site. I need to know if you have a download link for that driver? I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem but I also need to know what driver should work with this laptop? I have more information about error messages from the event viewer and some services that don't startup, but for now this is my system info.

IBM Thinkpad X32

Windows XP Pro SP3

Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network Connector

Netgear N750 router with WPA 2-PSK(AES)

If you need more information let me know what you need and how to find it

Thanks

Hello,

As we understand, you are having issues with the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. Here are some important aspects and recommendations about this situation:

- The Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection was discontinued in 2009. It has reached http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2200bg/sb/CS-028972.htm End of Interactive Support.

- Intel does not keep previous versions of the wireless driver for this adapter, the last release was Intel® PRO/Wireless Drivers-Only for Windows XP*, version 9.0.4.39, released in 8/2011 and can be obtained from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/3821/Intel-PRO-Wireless-2200BG-Network-Connection Intel® Download Center.

- If you suspect any driver issues, it would be recommended to uninstall the drivers completely, then install the most recent version.

- There are many possibilities for connectivity issues: configuration, interference, contention with other network devices, etc. Please apply the actions recommended in the following advisories:

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034658.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034658.htm

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/cs-030709.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/cs-030709.htm

* Some of these settings will not available for your adapter, since it is a B/G adapter in Windows XP.

- It is recommended to check withhttps://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/support?lnk=msdTS-supo-usen IBM support for drivers and software specific to your computer, as OEM software may help http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025332.htm Resolving Wi-Fi Network Connection Issues.

- Please check the http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/category/wireless/pro2200bg/trblsht Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection support site for additional information.

I have been in contact with someone at the Lenovo community, and they tell me they have a Thinkpad x32 with the most current driver 9.0.4.39. I don't know what router they have but it works just fine. I have figured something out. If I disable the security on the router everything functions normal. I have setup a guest account with WEP security and it continues to malfunction never acquiring a network address. I know the Intel card is a legacy device but with the router security set for WEP shouldn't the router be backward compatible. I also booted the laptop with a live Ubuntu CD and the wireless card functions normal. This indicates to me that this is not a hardware problem. I have overlooked your last post and didn't find anything that helped. Do you know of any compatibility issues with this device and a Wireless N router?

Thanks

We are not aware of any particular compatibility issues. However, all routers behave differently and we have seen cases in which using certain authentication methods or configurations may not work well.

Here are some recommendations that may help:

- Apply the configuration from the advisory:

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/cs-030709.htm

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/cs-030709.htm What are the Recommended Settings for 802.11n Connectivity?

- Check with the router manufacturer and update the firmware in the device.

- If the issue persists, change the driver setting "802.11n channel width for band 2.4" to "20 MHz only".

- Go the router configuration and try using different channels for your 2.4 GHz AP.
