Unable to Install Compatible Driver for Intel AX201 Wi-Fi 6 Card – Device Not Recognized

Dear Intel Support,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with the Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz wireless card on my ASUS laptop W7600H3A (CPU: Intel 11th Gen Core i7-11800H). The system fails to apply the correct driver, and the device appears in Device Manager as "Network Controller" with Code 28 – driver not installed.

What I have done:

Identified hardware ID of the Wi-Fi device:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_43F0&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_11
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_43F0&SUBSYS_00008086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_43F0&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_43F0&CC_0280

Checked currently installed drivers via pnputil, and found:

  • Installed: netwtw08 version 22.180.0.4

  • However, this INF does not contain the above hardware ID.

Tested multiple versions of Intel Wi-Fi drivers:

  • Versions from ASUS support page (e.g. WiFi_Intel_Z_V22.180.0.4_30877)

  • Intel's standalone package (e.g. WiFi-23.130.0-Driver64-Win10-Win11.exe)

Checked extracted INF files from installer packages using 7-Zip.

  • Found no matching entries for DEV_43F0&SUBSYS_00008086 in any of the netwtw06e.inf, netwtw08.inf, or netwtw10.inf.

Device Manager still shows the AX201 device as a generic “Network Controller” and does not associate it with any installed driver.

I have tried uninstalling hidden/phantom devices, clearing all previous failed driver attempts, and rebooting between each clean installation, to no avail.

Assistance Requested:

Can you confirm:

  • Which version of Intel Wi-Fi driver supports PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_43F0&SUBSYS_00008086?

  • Is this a valid and supported AX201 hardware variant?

  • If not, should I be using a different .inf or driver package (e.g. netwtw06, netwtw10, etc.)?

I am happy to provide logs or system reports as needed.
Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
XiaNight

Hello XiaNight,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

I would like to know more about your system details to fully understand where the issue truly lies. Please confirm if this is the actual system device that you have. Please also share the following for proper issue isolation:

  1. Are you having issues on WiFi or Bluetooth or both?
  2. When did it start to happen?
  3. Do you remember if this issue happened after a new OS update or Wireless driver update?
  4. Have tried a roll back to a previous driver version for testing?
  5. Were you able to have wireless connection in a normal/expected performance before?
  6. Is this a new computer? If so, have check with your system's OEM for validated drivers or support on known issues related to the symptoms experienced?
  7. What OS version are you using?

I highly appreciate you sharing your system configuration so I we can fully check and provide you with an accurate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software from other system device, save to a USB device and install on your ASUS laptop. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

  1. Scan: Check the box Everything.
  2. Click Scan.
  3. Review: When finished scanning, click Next.
  4. Click Save. *Attach the SSU log file as you reply.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.
