Upgrade from Intel Centrino Ultimate 6300-N?

Hello Folks,

I have a Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 in my laptop and I am looking for the best possible card that can be used as an upgrade

(the laptop is a HP EliteBook 8540w and the os is Win10Pro 64bit). On top of the better WiFi, I would also need the Bluetooth 4 upgrade that is available integrated with this card.

From a preliminary search on this forum, it seems that the issue is the form factor, which changed from PCIe Half Mini Card to some "M2" form factor. Dues to this, the best card might be the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

So... can somebody confirm that indeed this is the best card, given the form factor?

Is the difference in the number of antennas (3x3 for the 6300, 2x2 for the 7260) a compatibility factor in any way?

Thanks:

UB

You cannot do this yourself:

Also, if you attempt this, you may have problems:

I suggest you contact HP for assistance.

Hello UBoMW,

We understand you would like to upgrade the Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 in your PC, and you are considering the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

The main issue that you may face is hardware compatibility.

Please keep in mind that Intel does not support, nor recommends custom integration of wireless adapters since this may lead to installation errors, connection issues, software error messages, and in some cases it may even be illegal.

Intel does not recommend end users install or upgrade the various Intel® Wireless Adapter; you should always contact the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html Computer Manufacturer Support or its authorized representative to check which adapters are supported by your PC and have replaced with them whenever possible. For more information, please check the following advisories:

The AC 7260 would be a possible upgrade for your configuration, as it was available in HMC form factor, and having 2 antennas should not be a problem.

However, there is a special situation with Bluetooth*, since your PC may not be designed to use the Bluetooth* controller integrated in the 7260. If it is detected, it may also cause conflicts with any Bluetooth* adapter already built-in with your computer.

Therefore, you must check with HP support before attempting the upgrade.

Regards,
