intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 Plus Bluetooth on linux

I have Intel wireless AC 7260 Plus bluetooth card on intel NUC. I have installed Linux mint 17.1 Rebecca. I am having connectivity issues with this card .

1) It fails to detect my wifi network at times. It may show it up after few minutes.

2) If it connects the connection is too slow and intermittent. It disconnects few times in a 5 mins. Some times the NetworkManager gives up and shows no connection. Very rarely the connection stays stable for 10-15 min.

My other devices such as old netbook connects perfectly from same place to the wifi router.

I have read various reports of this cards on Linux forums and fail to understand if this is issue has been identified and fixed. In my case I am not even sure if this is a hardware issue or software. However there are many individuals facing this issue and no one seems to have found any solution.

I am completely frustrated with this issue. As such this card along with NUC has been a horrible experience. My NUC had died earlier(dead after suspend on linux, again reported by many users). I got it replaced under warranty. The wireless card continues to bother me.

have you tried to use this card in a Windows* environment to see if the same thing happens?

Thanks for responding. i dont have access windows installable and i do not intend to spend on that.

i have tried Ubuntu 14.04, 14.10 , 15.04beta Mint 17 and 17.1 and even the latest fedora 22 alpha with kernel 4.0 and no luck. In fact over last few days it has become impossible to even open a single Internet page using this card in my NUC. it takes forever to load a page. Sorry i am wrong. It never loads.:(

Looking at other email thread it is hard to believe that intel has not been able to fix the problem for almost 2 years. In my case i am starting to believe it is bad card and plan to return it.

If intel is aware of any problem with a batch of hardware they should have recalled it.

If it is a driver / firmware issue it is shame for intel not being able to fix it.

God know how many users have been tortuted and before they finally ripping the 7260 card and throwing it.

the last page of this very long discussion has suggestions on improving the performance of the 7260 card.

I too had a lot of problems with this card on two laptops. On one I ended up replacing the card with an older Intel wifi/bluetooth combo because it was cheap and easy - Dell laptop, no BIOS wifi lock-down. On the second, a Lenovo with the BIOS white-list lock-down, I eventually got a new WiFi card out of them which seems to be better. My suspicion is there as been a bad batch of the cards.

Hello thanks for your help. Really appreciate sharing your experience. I am also believing that i have got a bad card. I am going to give a last try to get it replaced. If it does not work i will probably buy a older card which works reliably.

I have tried various things from that forum. None worked. Is there any way to confirm if it is hardware problem. What is the warranty period of this card? Mine should be about 6 months old. Unfortunately the NUC i bought with this card was rarely for first few months. When i started using it first the NUC died which is replaced. Now the wireless card 7260 is not working. I am losing faith in intel products (hardware and software)

Please contact the PoP (Place of Purchase) for the warranty. For Linux* support, the best option is the forum previously informed.

Update on the situation:

I contacted the PoP. They told me that intel refused to replace the card instead advised to use windows. They had taken this mail thread as a reference to contact intel but it did not help. The PoP instead gave me a replacement from their sales distributor as special case. The replaced card does actually works fine. This proves that the earlier card was faulty and intel refusing to replace it extremely annoying. Note that this was within warranty period.

We would like to inform you that Intel does not sell wireless adapters to end users. They are sold only for computer manufacturers and OEMs and this is the reason that any replacement can only be done by the manufacturer and/or authorized OEM technicians. You can also check with the NUC furum: for assistance to check if there is any updates for the BIOS that can also help fixing this issue.
