Hey
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CS26G with the Wifi Link 5100 AGN (will the current drivers up to date) and I just got a Netgear DGND 3300 v2 wireless modem/router, it's duel band (2.4GHz and 5.0GHz). When searching for my wireless network it only finds the 2.4GHz one. As I understand, it should be able to pick up the 5.0GHz signal .... is there any reason why it wouldnt? HELP
Cheers

Hi Foxy,
Check your wireless router to make sure the 5GHz is setup with an SSID and is broadcasting. We have recently seen some routers that come with the 5GHz radio turned off.
The ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/DGND3300v2_UM_14Oct10.pdf Netgear DGND 3300 manual should help.

Hi Foxy,
You could have an adapter that doesn't support 5GHz. I recommend going to http://www.intel.com/support/idyp.htm http://www.intel.com/support/idyp.htm and running the Intel(R) System Identification Utility or manually check which adapter you have by following the recommendations at http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025417.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025417.htm.
If your adapter clearly supports 5GHz but is not able to see any networks then you may have a defective adapter. In this case I would recommend contacting your laptop manufacturer for assistance.
Another way to check is to go to another location that has a 5GHz wireless router (i.e. cafe, library, friend) to see if your adapter works with a different router. The issue could then be with the router.
A few other troubleshooting ideas:
- Update your router's firmware.
- Update your laptop's BIOS software.
- Uninstall your wireless software and drivers then install the newest available software. You might want to install the laptop manufacturer's software to see if it works. Check out http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-010623.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-010623.htm for links to how to uninstall your software.

I had the same problem with Intel Wifi 5100 card on my Sony Vaio running Windows7 x64 (driver 14.3.2.1). The interesting thing was that I have taken the card out of laptop and installed to another PC, also running Windows7 x64. To my surprise in that installation the card could see both 2.4 and 5.2Ghz networks of my Netgear 3800. So the problem is not in modem, wifi card or OS/drivers.
And the solution was the following. In driver properties (thus go to Computer management → Device Manager → expand Network Adapters → Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN → Properties) go to Advanced tab and for Wireless mode set the value 6. 802.11a/b/g (the original value was 4. 802.11b/g). After that 5G network was shortly shown in Network Center.
