Hi,

Could you please help me to transfer a existing intel fortran purchased by my employer long time ago license to me? Once that is done, we will also would like to move the license manager to another server in virtual machine style. Could you please let me know how to do it?

My IT folks have following questions, could you please let me know your thoughts?

If we plan on moving the license manger over to a new server, would the current license file work with the new server? What port is needed from workstations to obtain the licenses from the new server? Is it possible to still have the old server serve licenses until new server has been tested?

Hi LiYu1,

Thanks for posting your concern on the forum. Please find the answers to your queries below.

  • No, the current license files would not work as they contain the host information of the current server system.

  • The ports are 27009 (for lmgrd) and 28519 (for INTEL Vendor).

  • As mentioned above, updating the host information will update the license server system in use. Only one of them can work in the mentioned situation.

Nonetheless, there is a way. However, that will remove the use of a license manager & server system completely. Please note, with the transition of Intel® Parallel Studio XE to Intel® oneAPI Toolkits (Intel® oneAPI Base Toolkit + Intel® oneAPI HPC Toolkit), the Floating Licenses became Concurrent Licenses. As a result, we are providing a free upgrade option to users.

This upgrade, will not only provide the equivalent mapping of Intel® Parallel Studio XE for Intel® oneAPI Toolkits i.e. Intel® oneAPI Base & HPC Toolkit but also provide Intel® Parallel Studio XE Cluster Edition for Windows, Linux and macOS in the same license.

Note: Upgrading would result in the expiration of the current license to generate and provide you with a new license (having a new serial number). If you already have a product installed with your current license, you may replace the old license file with the new license file at the default license directory for the product to work without any issues.

The upgrade can be done by signing into the Intel® Registration Center, selecting 'Product List' and then selecting the supported product to find the ‘Upgrade Now’ option to upgrade for that product.

Concurrent Licenses would allow the developers/users to use the product at the same time as the floating license used to. However, it no longer needs nor uses a license manager to work. Due to that, it has one license file. Now you can simply install the product on the client system. As for checking the limit of users, please know, Intel® no longer has a mechanism in place to track license use. The responsibility for tracking license use falls to the company that owns the license to ensure they meet the EULA.

End-User License Agreements: https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/end-user-license-agreement.html

Since the transition, we are no longer using FLEXlm*. Due to this, Intel® Software License Manager does not work with the new licenses. However, if you have license files downloaded of the license before the upgrade, then it will still support the FLEXlm License Manager as before. However, no other modifications could be made to the licenses. New licenses with new host information or borrow timeframe could not be generated. This usability of the license is the only exception to the fact that the old license would be expired and out of use.

Hi Soumya,

Thank you very much for your help!

We tried Intel OneAPI toolkits before, and it has compatibility issue with our other software which needs to use IVF to compile files.

So, could you please help me to update our current license host information and after that to update license for our new server?

Thanks!
