How do I activate an existing installation that was previously an evaluation?  We bought a license, but I received it as text in an email body, and don't know what to name the .lic file.

Actually if you already have installed latest VTune(TM) Amplifier XE with eval license file, you don't need to reinstall the tool after purchasing, just remove eval license file then put a new commercial .lic file from the directory of environment variable "INTEL_LICENSE_FILE", usually it is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Licenses" as default on Windows*, it is /opt/intel/licenses as default on Linux*

You need to register the product via https://registrationcenter.intel.com/RegCenter/Register.aspx with your SN, you will get email from the system and the mail includes license file. If you cannot find it, you can go register center to review your registered products, click on specific product, then click on "Manage" which allows to do "Resend license file to my email" by yourself.
