Teaming I210 with I217

Can an I210* and I217-LM be configured for teaming together? In Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016?

Same questions for: I210 and I219-LM - can they be teamed?

* As an aside: I'm a little confused by the I210 designation. Can somebody clarify this for me?

  • I'm pretty sure these motherboards have an I210-AT NIC.
  • The Intel SSU tool identifies the NIC as I210 with no suffix.
  • I don't see an Ark page for I210, but there is a data sheet for I210.
  • There are Ark pages for the five I210 variants (I210-AS, I210-AT, I210-CS, I210-IS, I210-IT) listed in the "Ethernet Controller I210 Series" (https://ark.intel.com/products/series/64399/Intel-Ethernet-Controller-I210-Series Intel® Ethernet Controller I210 Series Product Specifications)
  • So are the five I210 variants all function- and feature- same?

Hi H241x,

Thank you for posting in Wired Communities.

1) In order to team two network cards, one of the network card should support teaming. Both I219LM and I217LM support teaming, you may refer to the product brief below for reference:

-Page 2 of the I217-LM information below

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/networking/ethernet-controller-i217-family-brief.html?asset=9595&_ga=2.51276521.1364579285.1515980254-1105153325.1509933445

-Page 2 of I219_LM

2) However, it is to be noted teaming with Intel ANS is not supported in Windows 2016 and there are special requirment for teaming in Windows 10. Please refer to this website for reference:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005667/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html?_ga=2.175135074.1953047155.1515982641-1105153325.1509933445

If you want to team NICs in Windows 2016, you may refer to the suggestion here

https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/support/articles/000022706/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

3) With regards to the variant of the I210 ethernet controller, the I210 is the name of the Ethernet controller, you may refer to the different product codes on page 5 of the product specification update for the differences:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/i210-ethernet-controller-spec-update.pdf?asset=9571&_ga=2.155892091.1771747805.1515981911-1105153325.1509933445

What is the brand and model of your motherboard? As this is OEM onboard NIC on the board, it is recommended still to contact the board vendor as there are possible customized changes made on the onboard NIC to adapt to the board system. Please contact the board vendor for customized driver which is suitable for the onboard NIC.

Hope the above information help.

Thanks,

Sharon T
