Hi,
I'm using Intel 82599EB based onboard dual ports 10Gbps NIC with Solaris x86/x64. I do aggregation of both ports with LACP. Refering to http://download.intel.com/design/network/prodbrf/321731.pdf http://download.intel.com/design/network/prodbrf/321731.pdf, it see that Intel 82599 family chipset support iSCSI acceleration. Is this acceleration still work on LACP aggregation? What is the best MTU, Tx/Rx queueing numbers and Tx/Rx ring buffer size for having best iSCSI performance in this situation?
Best regards,

Thanks for visiting our forum and using Intel Ethernet.
The iSCSI Accleration mentioned in the Intel 82599 product brief: http://download.intel.com/design/network/prodbrf/321731.pdf http://download.intel.com/design/network/prodbrf/321731.pdf, does work with LACP (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_aggregation Link Aggregation Control Protocol).
We did a blog last year about iSCSI performance: /community/wired/blog/2010/04/22/1-million-iops-how-about-125-million http://communities.intel.com/community/wired/blog/2010/04/22/1-million-iops-how-about-125-million. We also have another blog that explains how things were tuned for this test: /community/wired/blog/2010/04/20/1-million-iop-article-explained http://communities.intel.com/community/wired/blog/2010/04/20/1-million-iop-article-explained
There are many articles on the web that detail tuning for different types of environments. There really is no 1 setting for all to get optimal performance. It really depends on many factors.

Hi Patrick,
Can you give me some example of tunning parameter value for best performance iSCSI of files traffic?

I forwarded your origianl question to some co-workers. Here is the response - hope it helps.
The answer to your question about iSCSI acceleration working with LACP is yes, the iSCSI acceleration will still work with LACP. However, if I read between the lines I suspect that you are really looking for the best way to combine your two 10GbE links to speed up your iSCSI transfers. If that is the case, I would suggest that you not use LACP but rather IP Multipathing (IPMP http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/ha-rac-networking-ipmp-168440.pdf http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/ha-rac-networking-ipmp-168440.pdf ). The best source of information about configuring and tuning Solaris are of course the experts at Oracle. I would suggest that you contact your Oracle support folks, visit Oracle's Technology Network (where Big Admin used to live) at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/systems/index.html http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/systems/index.html or search the web for Oracle whitepapers and blogs.
