use ethernet port WITHOUT NIOS PROCESSOR

Hi all, 

 I am trying to transmit some data through ethernet to my DE3 board, WITHOUT SOPC and NIOS. Could anyone give me some advice how to initialize the marvell 88e1111 chip and make it work? Thanks

I'm working with a DE2 board. I also need to find a method to do this since I don't familiar with this NIOS II.:(

Invest the time, learn Nios. 

Nios/e is free and it will require a lot less development time to get the software running than the time you will need to get a HUGE state machine in hardware running.
