Hey guys,
I've recently upgraded to Windows 8 on my Zenbook Prime UX31A and micro HDMI port is not working at all. Basically, when I plugin microhdmi to HDMI cable to the port nothing happens. Neither laptop or TV detect a new screen. I've been reading online that this might be an issue with the driver.
I've tried multiple drivers from both ASUS and Intel's website and it's still a no go. Current drivers that I'm using on it are:
Version V9.17.10.2828Description Intel Graphics Driver
File Size 157,12 (MBytes) 2012.10.19 update
Can you please help?
Thanks,
Dragan S.

Just wanted to share that my issue was solved by simply getting another cable. I had bought a cheap ass micro hdmi->hdmi cable from dealextreme.com which didn't work with my UX31A Touch, tried everything; upgraded the BIOS, upgraded the drivers from INtel. Nothing worked; it's like the cale was not there; nothing to be seenon the laptop and the screens remained black. (tested on three different screens).
Today I went to the shop & got me a cable that set me back €36,- (it's called a 'high speed HDMI cable') and things worked instantly. Plugged it in and everything is now working flawlessly.
Just my 2 cents. don't trust your $8,- cables....

The vga output works, hdmi doesn't. I did not update the drivers(maybe windows did without me noticing). My driver version is 9.17.10.2828.
When it worked on the samsung monitor I was only trying to see if the cable worked, because I couldnt get it to work on my own monitor. I have a micro hdmi to hdmi cable (STYLE 20276 80c 30V VW-1).

I've tried literally everything at this point.. I've bought another cable - no dice, bought a microHDMI to HDMI adapter - no dice.. Rolled back to factory reset ie. Win7 Home - same thing happens.. Drivers can see TV after disabling/enabling them, but TV can't see the laptop and you can't see content on it...
I'm calling ASUS pickup & return support tomorrow, I'm really fed up with this.

My TV is also Samsung UE40EH5300, but I've tried HDMI also on some LG TV at friends place, not sure about the model number, it's LED, not really smart. My monitor in the office is Asus ML228H, HDMI also not working (now on VGA wich works but I hate it and video playback is dropping frames etc.).
Just to put an reminder, all of the displays work through HDMI only while in BIOS and loading Windows 8.

I'll post my model numbers when I get home. One is a Samsung. One is a Phillips.
Tech support won't work with me because I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8.
I wonder if the person who is having the same problem who bought the device with windows 8 could try to push asus to admit there is a problem.... so far, they won't acknowledge that there is an issue because they attribute the problem to windows.
Does anyone (other than Robert U) know anyone who has this working properly?
If Robert U is willing to share the step by step process he used, I"m willing to revert back to factory install and try out his method.
Very frustrating.

I upgraded to Windows 8 and then rolled back to factory reset Windows 7 Home Premium and it's not working there either, so support shouldn't tell you that..

First step was to make sure I had the latest BIOS on the system . I did this with the ASUS build of Windows 7 installed.
I then did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64. Here is an excellent tutorial on a clean install.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-clean-install-part-1.htm How To Clean Install Windows 8 (Part 1 of 2)
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-clean-install-part-2.htm Wait While Your Computer Restarts Automatically (Step 21 of 31)
After the OS install I ran Windows Update to insure I had the latest files and drivers available on the Microsoft servers.
I then went to the http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=UX31A&p=3&s=369 ASUS support site for the UX31A and downloaded and installed all necessary drivers and applications listed for the UX31A.
For the graphics driver, I tested the inbox Windows 8 driver, the Windows Update driver, the ASUS download driver, and finally the http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22083&lang=eng Intel HD Graphics driver from Intel Download Center. All drivers worked as expected with all three displays functioning properly.

I tried uninstalling the stock driver, than installed http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22083&lang=eng Intel HD Graphics driver from Intel Download Center
but it does not make any difference.
My main monitor at which it does not work is a Samsung Syncmaster XL2370. Tomorrow I'll test the monitor again at which it did work and give the model number of that one too.

Samsung LNT4661F
Philips 52PFL5704D
are the two TVs which don't connect using the HDMI port.
Called asus for the 5th time... they tell me that nobody else has reported similar problems.
Perhaps our best strategy to get them to do something about this is to start writing reviews on Amazon/C-net, etc describing our frustration.
Does anyone know anyone who has had success connecting using the micro HDMI port?

The monitor at which I connected successfully is a Samsung Syncmaster SA350.

Could people also post what kind of cable/adapter they are having success/failure with?
I have 1 adapter which I've never been able to get to work.
One adapter (with lots of fiddling) worked ONCE on one of my 3 TVs... I haven't been able to reproduce this.
It would be interesting to see if someone has a cable which worked with another device on the same TV but DOESN"T work with the ASUS on the same TV. If we have that situation, we can at least be sure it's an ASUS problem and not either a TV or Cable problem.
Please post the cable/adapter you use in addition to what Robert_U has asked you to post, and in addition, please let us know if that cable/adapter has been successfully used on the same TV with another device.

I'm using a new €20 1,5m nice gold-plated micro HDMI to HDMI (don't know if there is any brand, threw the package away), but as I previously mentionied, only the fact that BIOS and W8 loading screen are perfectly clear, it means that the cable and port are working.

WELL I'LL BE DARNED!!!! I decided to start from scratch. I went out and bought a brand new Micro HDMI "high speed with ethernet" (whatever that means) to HDMI 15 foot cable. Plugged it in and it works flawlessly with all 3 TVs!!!
It seems that this was a cable problem all along. As Filip pointed out, I too was thrown by the fact that the ASUS screen showed up.... I'd urge all of you having the same problem to try a different cable (and get rid of the adapters).
Of note, the cable I just bought is a much more "snug" fit than both of the adapters I had.
I'd like to publicly thank Rob U who spent quite a bit of one on one time trying to help trouble shoot this problem.

@ipassgas , thanks for your willingness to work the issue. Nicely done!
As for why you see POST screens, not all signals on an HDMI cable are active during POST. and also POST is low resolution, low bandwidth. Once Windows boots you are now at a high bandwidth connection that poorly designed cables may not be able to handle.

The cable I had success with was.... Tech Craft 1.4 high speed hdmi male to micro hdmi gold plated rohs.. Model CHDMI-MD15 Bar code 773070845948
I bought it at TechSource in Canada -- Scarborough Location.
Interestingly enough, the cable is a relatively snug fit.... Both adapters (which didn't work) were much looser.

Hello friends, I am also having the same issue. I have a micro hdmi to hdmi cable (not adapter) that has been tested and works, but I am not getting a picture. My computer does NOT recognize the monitor being attached, but on cable connection the monitor does cycle on as though a cable is connected before returning to standby.
I also tried connecting to DVI-D with an adapter which worked at home on my acer monitor, but will not work with any of the dell monitors at work.
I am running Windows 8 64bit, have the latest drivers from intel and asus as well as the latest bios. I will keep testing on other monitors and look forward to hearing your updates as well; basically I'm just glad I'm not the only one.
*EDIT*
I just got home and tried it on my acer again, but it no longer works. I have no idea how this is possible....
