Another potential Live TV issue with HD4000

Hello,

I have used Windows Media Center for quite some time for Live TV viewing. When I recently built a new machine, I used an i3 ivy bridge chip with HD4000 graphics along with Windows 8 Media Center. When viewing live TV (or recorded TV), there is an issue when footage changes from HD to SD or different HD settings, like from 1080i to 720p, etc. This is NOT while switching channels, but rather when an HD broadcast gets interrupted by an SD commercial, etc. In a normal circumstance, the broadcast fades out and the commercial fades in gracefully. However, with the HD4000, the broadcasts abruptly ends, and the commercial starts abruptly. Then, the commercial ends abruptly and the next commercial or broadcast resumes awkwardly, with the video and audio chopping out for a second or two. The volume also goes up and down drastically depending on if it is outputting SD or HD.

I have extenders that do not have this symptom. My old server with a dedicated GPU did not have this symptom. It is only on the server that uses the HD4000 graphics. Given the other issues with Live TV the HD4000 had previously, I can only assume that this is related. I am using the latest drivers for the HD4000.

I hope I explained this well enough as it is somewhat hard to verbalize, but more than slightly irritating. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi YDH,

As part of the troubleshooting steps, I want you to try the following:

  1. Have you tried installing another Operating System?
  2. Have you tried a different driver?
  3. Is it possible to test a different processor?
  4. Have you tried an update for the Media Center Software?
